Would anyone be interested in knowing how to use a non VW fuel gauge in a VW?
I've been working on this and have succeeded. Curious if anyone would like a tech talk or tech mods and FAQs post on how to do it?
Hi
I've used a VDO one that they make especially for VW.
Steve
Wow. Nice. Never even knew they existed.
My project involved adding specific value external resistors to change the bias and overall resistance of a push / pull style gauge based off
measurements taken from it with a multimeter.
In all replacing the gauge cost me $12. That's $10 for the gauge and $2 for the bezel. Already had resistors.
Worth it if you are working to a budget.
i went the same way as Steve. bought a VDO gauge and sender for my oval... had the top of the tank modified with an adaptor plate to fit the new sender unit directly onto the top of the tank.
VDO is now owned by the Continental company (the German tyre company). You can see their instrument and sender catalogues at:

General_Failure I dont need anything like this right now but i think it would be a real interesting guide if you have the time to write it, As im sure
people are wondering this and they may just stumble upon this via google. Share the knowledge
And just use the one you did to show the calculations etc.
Hey GF I posted some time ago asking if there was a way of testing a fuel sender with a multimeter as I have a 6v gauge which works, several resisitors/vibrators but still can't get reading. Any help would be most welcome..........PS keep any info very simple
