removal of hub cap and wheel

just bought a kombi and would like to know easiest way to remove hub cap and tyre do u need special pin type pronge to remove cap,

just use a big screw driver under cap and pop it off no special tool needed

yes - there is a special hub cap removal tool

but most people use the flat blade of a tyre lever or large screw driver.
depends how pristine your rims are

i always used a screwdriver on my beetle but the hubcaps were stuffed already.

i would imagine that with a wire coathanger and a pair of pliers you could fashion a suitable "hook" to get the cap off.

A claw hammer works well on the early domed hubcaps, just place the end of the claw under the rim of the cap and use handle of hammer to lever it off. You can tape a bit of cardboard or rubber to the head of the hammer to protect paint.

You can make one like the illustration, then slip the shaft of a screwdriver through and lever off the tyre. No scratches on the wheel or hubcap.

i madeup something like Peter showed above cos one of my bugs had wide wheels and cos of the offset u couldnt get anything in there to lever the hubcap off
