badkarmann - January 6th, 2009 at 12:39 PM

its on at last taken awhile to get there.a useful day of work

rose - January 6th, 2009 at 01:02 PM

yes looks pretty but it creats less horse power now
why did you change it? do you like the ricer look?:lol:

badkarmann - January 6th, 2009 at 01:13 PM

yes looks a lot nicer to me but have always hated the look of the old V belt system alot easier to adjust now
Thanks Rose

Bizarre - January 6th, 2009 at 07:08 PM

they are a lot quieter then the stock set up

Joel - January 6th, 2009 at 07:29 PM

i was sceptical of them too as most ppl do i also figured all show
but after seeing how much smoother and quieter kims beetle was with one im bit more convinced

only thing that concerns me is stock v-belt is design to let the fan slip at high revs
probbaly not an issue on a stock motor but stock unwelded fans do explode at higher revs

badkarmann - January 6th, 2009 at 07:40 PM

my self i cant see how it would lose horse power more direct on the pulleys

Been known to pin the throttle cable at WOT too, if you are truly unlucky.

have a look at the top pic
see how the throttle cable passes thro the shroud about 10mm from the fan
well when the fan does this at high revs it can grab the cable and jam them WOT

It is more common in higher revving engines, exceeding the 4000 rpm max they were designed for. The factory fan is simply not designed for the higher RPMs and can break under the load. The bent fan can then hit the throttle cable tube running through the fan shroud, bending the tube and jamming the cable inside. It is just luck as to whether the throttle is open or closed at the time.

Some VW parts companies offer trued, welded and balanced fans to overcome this.

wow thats an awesome picture, never thought they could just fly apart like that.....4000rpm you say?? hmm might have to look into mine.

otherwise love the belt system, looks good, but if its only looks and quietness then its not my thing, NOISE!!!!!!!!;)

Looks great, will the tensioner fit with the original fuel pump in place, is it spring loaded?

those shitty aftermarket fans from taiwan made of shaped alfoil may do that at 4k but stock should be ok upto 6k
if ur reving past that tho might be worth thinking about a welded fan
