I am really P@#&*%Off
Some sticky fingers person decided they would like to help themselves to my BUG-670 number plates off my Beetle. My hubby drove the Bug to work on
Monday & parked it out the front of our house at 3pm, I pulled up behind him at 5pm to see there was no rear plate on the car, I though it may
have come loose & he was fixing it but on closer inspection I could see that the plates had been snapped off as we had them rivetted on. I was so
upset - I went to check the front one expecting it to be gone as well but it was still on but a bit bent so they obviously had a go at getting it off
as well. Then I noticed in the gutter was my rear plate very damaged but at least I still have it. I think somebody must have disturbed them &
they have thrown it down. I cant believe somebody would steal the plates off my car out the front off my house, we are now putting the cars straight
away as soon as we get home as my GTI has BUG-710 plates & we dont want them to be the next to go.
Does anybody know if I can get the damaged plates remade?
yes, but I think it wil cost you $50
Your lucky. Bartards.
i haad 1 go off the 3ifes car $74.00 to replace with all new ones
good luck and we all hope they get theres some time when they least expect
yeah ur rta thingo will charge you a pretty penny no doubt but it can be done..
what losers..
next time round decent bolts and a serving of goop - sikaflex 225 black underneath n then their never coming off..
Musta bin sumwun from outa town, Newie peepl woodna dun such a fing.
Yeah, RTA will make you new ones to replace, had to do that for rego once many moons ago, can't remember the $ but so long ago it wouldn't be
relevant. Mongrels, hope they get sprung doing it next time because sure as they will be repeat offenders.
Bloody scum bags, I had my VWFREAK ones stolen a while back, so I know your pain. I now pop rivet my plates on.
You need to get screws with an allen head on them or or use regular screws and burr the heads off them with an electric drill or a file, so they
cannot be easily removed.
I wonder if these are any good, I don't know the seller or the product:
TAMPER PROOF SECURITY ONE WAY NUMBER PLATE SCREWS
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TAMPER-PROOF-SECURITY-ONE-WAY-NUMBER-PLATE-SCREWS_W0QQ...
Nothing special about them as they are readily available at most places that sell screws and bolts, looks like those ones are a cheap style zink finish, as they need a special driver to remove them it would be best to try for stainless so rust and the eventual stains wouldn't be a problem.
They were actually securely fitted, the plates themselves are snapped at the fitting holes so they have obviously bent them back & forwards till
the plate itself snapped. The stainless rivets that my hubby used were still attached to the decklid
Bastards............
Just apply for this personal plate. If you were a thief would you want it!
I guess in a way your better of just screwing them on so they dont do any damage to your car,if you use rivets and antitheft screws and glue it would cost more to fix the damage to your engine lid they leave than the cost of new plates???
You could always get numberplate stickers a tad illegal but harder to
steal. :P

Don't suppose you've asked around the neighbourhood? Most stupid crimes like this are fairly local apparently. Any stoners in your street or nearby? Nobody would do it for their car - just to decorate their house maybe???
I may be a bit cautious, but unless my car is in my sight or in my locked alarmed garage, I won't leave it. It's a sick world, and it is like trying
to avoid speeding fines. If you don't speed, you don't get fined. If your car is not available for damage, it can't get damaged. Annoying, but
reality.
In regards to plates, I went to VICROADS last week and ordered a new pair of HEL BUS plates as our ones were starting to blister on the black base.
They are nearly 10 years old, but the plates have a 10 year warranty, and they looked and accepted they were not good, and I got new ones in the mail
today.

It's the damage they might do trying to get the plate off as well...the BASTARD SCUMBAGS!!
I hate that sort of stuff...NO repect!!!
I hope it is not the same A#*EHOLE that slashed my karmann beetle roof! Some years ago, I had a 69 karmann factory beetle....fitted with a Kill
switch, shitty stereo and doors unlocked but they still carved the roof up.....My trimmer and myself spent close to 5 months stripping, ordering and
repairing the entire roof.....insurance paid, but if only I had caught the scumbag!....hope this makes you feel a little better.....weld the plates on
and put the cars away!
zsolt...brisbane.
Maybe We should use plastic screws....
then the Police will have a field day booking cars without number plates....
I don't think We can really Win....

WOW
that was a bad experience...
I never think of anything while i'm parked etc in the country towns...
I even leave my glass sunroof open...
but I was told many years ago, that people were pouring milk into opened sunroofs in Port Macquarie....
hopefully it won't happen...

Hi
They probably only wanted them to do a drive off petrol scam, you know fill the car up and drive off without paying.
Steve
Hey Jodi. Get the old boy to pop rivet them along the side of the plate as a few quick bends up and down and they pop off real easy. But if you have
them fixed down the sides they can't lever them out as easily. A lot harder the grab and if it takes too much effort the buggers will usually leave
things be.
The petrol scam is a big reason for nicking plates but usually only one plate is stolen. This sounds more like someone adding to a grarge wall
collection as they could never be re used and if stolen usually not replaced but cancelled by the RTA. I had a mate who has the plate 'PILOT' and he
had all sorts of drama with the RTA after his was stolen out the front of his house.
