that 1 next to ivan hirst was made by the factory apprentices and presented to him. i cann't remember the full story but the apprentices made a handfull of VERY nice bugs for several dignitarys.
Yes I remember an article about these special, hand-built models in Safer Motoring magazine years ago. The first one was actually built before the
war, and was given to Hitler. This one still exists, and can be seen today in the Deutsches Museum in Munich (the world's largest science and
technology museum).
After the war the factory made three more. One went to Ferry Porsche (still owned by the Porsche family), one went to Heinz Nordhoff (owned by his
family, and donated to the Wolfsburg museum), and one went to Ivan Hirst, the English gentlemen in the photo above. He was the British Army Major who
was in charge of the VW factory from 1945 to 1948, and was instrumental in saving the plant from demolition. Really, the VW would not exist today
without Major Hirst. After his death in 2000, the model in the photo above was donated by his family to his Army regiment. It can be seen today in the
REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) museum in Berkshire, UK. Their website is http://www.rememuseum.org.uk/facts/index.htm

How good is that last one with all the lights working. I like it
Well I found one, it is not as well detailed as I would like, but for $44 you can't really complain,

Have been thinking about modifying it, maybe adding some windows, chrome bumpers etc..maybe some working headlights, shouldn't be too hard.
