Sorry to put this in this section, but I thought more people would see it and I need an answer tonight. As the title says are the original tyres on
my car, that being 5.60-15 the same as 165/80-15 tyres of today.
Thanks as I need to confirm this so as I know the diameter to work out what size larger tyres I can fit. eg 235/40-18 are less than 1mm difference.
Cheers, Kev
5.60" was cross ply size on Bugs. 155 was the radial tyre width on the 4" rims.
165 size was the radial tyre replacement of 6.00 tyres on 4.5" rims. Hope that helps.

1500S,
thanks for the reply and I just looked up original owners handbook and a 61 model had 4" rims, so maybe its the 155/80-15 and not 165s.
Thanks for your help, Kevin
The tyre shops will have a book with rolling radii and overall circumference for various tyres. You can also access this on the net, try one of the tyre manufacturers sites for more information.
No its taller more for the KOmbi Commercial sort of light truck tyre
Yes
as 1500S said the original Radial ply tyres were 155 x 15
but as they are now classed as a Vintage clessic car tyre
the price has just about doubled...
so the 165 x 15 which was used on type 3 VWs back in the late 60s and 70s...
so now 165 80 15 are the normal tyre now...
many people go the other way... 145 or 135 x 15...
on the front.... Yikes...
cheers
