Ok. When I bought my Beetle I was told she was a 64 model but a few people on here have enlightened me that she's more likely a 71 or 72 so I've
been trying all day to identify her. I've located what I beleive is the chassis number (under the rear seat on the hump in the middle) but I beleive
they are supposed to be a 10 digit number and I could only find 9 digits. This is what I've found: 197644564.
I can't find compliance plates anywhere (not really sure where to look either).
Here are some pics of my girl:
So what can you guys tell me? And if I can't find a compliance plate what does that mean for me?
Hi,
just at a first glance it looks to me like a '71 superbug, albeit a heavily modified one. I'm sure others can shed more light on it.
body looks definitely 71-73. dash looks padded which says 73 or so as the 71 and 72s have the flat steel dash.
does it have the strut front end or a beam?
boot lit looks like a 70 or so as they went 4 vents in 72 on the sbugs
are the wipers on the dash?
I would of said 68-69 because of the rear taillights, but without seeing under the front hood its hard to say.
well body wise its definatley a 71 superbug
ur chassis number doesnt make sence tho but ive seen things hacked around over the years
it can only fitted with another superbug chassis if it has been swapped which is highly unlikely
the compliance plate if it still has one will be under the hood next the the hood catch
they get removed in accident repairs, resprays etc
my convertible was missign it too
as i said in another post somewhere it looks alot like the convertable that was raffled at valla 93 or 95
Ok...well I've now found both the chassis number and the engine number and in doing a REVs check have found that: VEHICLE DETAILS MATCHED WITH RTA. So that's something at least.
Hmm..my vote goes for a '71. Single stalk on the steering column and I have the same taillights, ie no white reverse section. Somewhere else you
mentioned your spare wheel lies flat so '71 1302 Superbug.
Enjoy
Ctefeh
damn i'd just about kill for that steering wheel's boss kit.
Hi again
the car looks like a 1971 superbug...
engine cover correct - air vents on dash -
i believe you have missed anumber on your chassis
it should be: 119,7644,564
which would make the car a 1969 Model...?
any chance of the engine number just to the right of the bottom crankshaft pulley....
cheers
LEE
Engine Number: AS230852
thats a 75 engine but its fairly normal these days for a bug not to have the original anymore
the right chassis number for that body would be 111 2x xx xxx
Ok...this is making things a little confusing for buying parts...for example the new headlight I need. LOL.
did they have compliance plates before ADRs came in around 74?
I think before 71 compliance plates werent a requirement...or at least thats what I read
my rota bug was 4/70 and had same aussie compliance plate as all the others 70s bugs i had
yep def not pre 67..
nothing early had that style of dash vents yeah..
