help with supply of windscreen glass for a 56 oval
rose - February 5th, 2009 at 05:14 PM

Hi
Does anyone know if you can these from somewhere. As my windscreen guy said the latest one he can get is a 58 glass. So would have to be cut to fit.

Thanks
Rose

My Son Scott had to have one made for His Oval...
a few years ago...
it took the Windscreen Obrien man a few goes to cut it correctly...
He didn't cut it from another windscreen...
laminated glass...

Maybe windscreen Obrien carry the laminated auto glass.??

Haven't a clue how much it would be...

get a heap made and sell them...
I suppose they make a template...??

I have a few in stock but I'm Victoria, so transport would be a problem.

Is it dead flat? If so, Koala glass is the place to go, they can cut to size.. Even some guys from Sydney go there to get their windscreens for their buggies.

Yes they are dead flat....
not like the 68> beetles which are NOT flat...

I bought My windscreen from Koala Glass...

I think they were at Sandgate... ?? NSW

Best price I could get...

Cost doesn't matter as Shannons are paying due to me getting a big chip in it.

I will just have to wait a few weeks for Boris at Vintage Vee Dub to be in the workshop one Sat to fit it for me, as he is a very busy man.

Hi Rose,
it must have been a big stone Rose, as a small flat windscreen held in rubber - is pretty vibration free...

back in the early 70s with the safety glass windscreens which used to shatter on impact from a stone..
You could buy a suction cup device which was supposed to take any vibrations from a stone hitting the windscreen

I think they really worked... unless of course a stone did hit Your windscreen....:lol::lol:
then they fell to the floor - along with the rest of the windscreen...:lol::dork:

so, We went from Safety glass [no seat belts] to Laminated glass [with seat belts]

cheers

I hope it is not considered rude of me to ask, but what does a front windscreen and seal for a Beetle cost?

Even just a PM with the answer is fine, thanks.

try a place that replaces truck windscreens as they are usually flat and they can cut you one from a sample (from a used truck screen with a corner fracture) and if your lucky you can get one with shading across the top.

I got a winscreen made from a local glasscutter and it didn't fit! So i took it to Windscreen obrien and he had a few goes at making it fit.It turns out the glass wasn't the proper thickness for front glass anyway.Sooo i know have that as a template for another time i need a front windscreen.
Fitting is quite easy guys.Only takes about half hour.If your rubber has a chrome strip it is a little fiddleyer. Front window rubbers are less than $100. I think the oval front screen rubber is the same as 68 front window.WCM
