Did Beetles either in Oz or Overseas ever have VOLKSWAGEN script on the hood...

Or was it an aftermarket option?

Hood? Do you mean the front bonnet? No. Only the VW roundel at the top, in front of the windscreen. You can buy angled chome 'Volkswagen' scripts as an accessory, but they only really suit early 6V Beetles, style-wise.

Or the rear engine lid? US Beetles had 'Volkswagen' script on the engine lid from around 1966, but Australian Beetles had 'VW 1300' badges instead. In 1968 this was updated to 'VW 1500'. When the Superbug came along, the rear badge said 'Volkswagen S' in Australia, or 'VW 1302' in the UK. The later Superbug had 'Volkswagen L' (VW 1303 in UK). The '76 Beetle had no engine lid badge.

I can't find a photo of Australian 'Volkswagen' rear badges at the moment, but I did find this US one (ours weren't like this).

Did Semi-auto Beetles come with a 'VW AUTOMATIC' badge on the rear decklid?

only 1500 semi autos had VWautomatic and possibly Sbugs but Lbugs autos still had VolkswagenL

Phil the volkswagen script in the US was the same one that aus had on S and L bugs

sorry should of been clearer i meant on the front bonnet not the rear.

I was watching a 60's tv show and the bug had the script on the front and didnt know VW did it from factory.

not sure if it was US or Canadian so if anyone can shed some light it would be great!

ive seen em in US pics but think there after market badges ,make one like joel has Costa ,carve it out of jewelry wax and get it cast in brass and polish then chrome plate $100 approx

That cast in brass comment made me think back to a car show I attended in Port Macquarie years ago, a bloke there had an Austin 7 and I commented on some nice pollished brass plates he had (I think on the running boards), he told me he makes his own from brass he gets from melting down old taps, seems they melt almost as easy as lead, and they polish up better than the originals was his comment.

yea dunno who he is...... i hear he's a loud mouth tho

just to clear things up the volkswagen script on my decklid is the one that my bug rolled out of the factory with i didnt make it or the supercharged badge, that is from the VT supercharged commodores

what costa is talking about is the script that ppl put on the front hoods, one of the gurus on samba can confirm it but pretty positive they were never factory just add ons ppl fit
