Old Hutcho - February 15th, 2009 at 07:50 PM

Yes we did have a great day. Learned heaps about my engine and where its at. Just hope we dont start another $hit fight with the Pobjoy engines Vs the Rest like the Newcastle thread. Even though I built my own engine, and I am really happy with it, I reckon Ive got a long way to go to get to all those other guys.

Like Rose and the crowd from Newcastle, we went along to have a fun day and learn something, and thanks to the guys who put on the dyno day we did just that.

I can tell you my car ran heaps better, cooler, with better consumption, and now I KNOW that it develops all of its torque right where I want it, instead of theorising about it.

Thanks to all the guys who participated.

Super1302 - February 15th, 2009 at 07:54 PM

guess who has to pull a darned engine out and do the clutch disk????????????? hhmmmmmnn

Menangler - February 15th, 2009 at 08:31 PM

Yes it was a fun day, thanks Rod for organising it, some photos.

ian.mezz - February 15th, 2009 at 08:31 PM

VWFREAK - February 16th, 2009 at 04:41 PM

Great stuff

hellbugged - February 16th, 2009 at 05:27 PM

always fun with more than one VW, interesting results thanx for sharing them and the pics........nice looking cars!

cnfabo - February 16th, 2009 at 07:41 PM

WHY DO SOME DYNOS READINGS DIFFER FROM ONE AND ANOTHER. TO ME THESE READINGS SEEM LOW FOR WHAT THESE ENINES ARE.

CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG.

Super1302 - February 16th, 2009 at 07:47 PM

these are at the wheels.

Mine is 147hp @ the flywheel with slipping clutch, one lead off and exhaust leak OR 105 rwhp. the multiplier was 1.4

what sort of reading do you think we should of had?????:)

I am no expert on dynos but I can't see how they can be the same,
Different model dynos, different operators, different conditions.
All our runs were in 4th gear, some operators do runs in 3rd, how can they be the same??

These figures are only good for comparing engines/cars on the day.

Gee I like that dyno.
the one I go to is only 12%.

Looks like another great VW day out.

Super1302 - February 16th, 2009 at 08:38 PM

bhp is after net losses and then hp is at the flywheel.

that is how you get, is that correct

cnfabo - February 16th, 2009 at 09:14 PM

so paul could take his car to a different dyno and get 118bhp.?? so how do you realy know how much you got.

matberry - February 16th, 2009 at 09:43 PM

Great info and definately thankyou for sharing. Great to see some engine specs posted with the hp.

I'm no expert, but in my experience, different machines can vary but if they are properly serviced they should a=be relatively close. Where they do differ, or how some operators fudge results, is primarily with the temperature probe, put the probe where there is a little more heat than what the engine is truely consuming and the computer deciding the results tends to show more hp (killer wasps hey Rose), alot more heat and you get alot more wasps/hp.

At last years Brissy dyno day, for my own interests, we got the operator to run my mates kombi first in 4th gear and then in 3rd gear.....

the results were identical.

Great to see more of these days happening, they are alot of fun.:tu:

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - February 16th, 2009 at 10:34 PM

Pete and I are about to start the preparations for this years Dyno Mania event. bigger and better and hopefully more competitors.

If you own a VW then you can compete at this event!! Stay tuned!!

Super1302 - February 17th, 2009 at 08:45 AM

taking our cars down the track would hopefully tell us what we are likely to have
but at the moment we are comparing with five clubbies cars and a trike and the results for 1916's were close
and at the end of it all we had a good day out.

Paul

Your thinking is wrong
A dyno IS A tunning tool not designed to give you a biggest HP read out

the HP read out should be use to see if you can get any more improvement out of the engine on the day that its running and being tuned

Every Dyno will give a different reading

Craig Torrens - February 17th, 2009 at 11:20 AM

Thanks for posting HP and Torque figures .... its Good to be able to compare the Torque figures as well :tu:

Klaus - February 17th, 2009 at 03:17 PM

shit I have been living like a hermit didn't even know this happened , would have brought subi wagon down.
Suppose I should go to club meetings more often.

Maybe you could come up to our next one as well in Jun or Jul

check out our dyno day at newy to see what the subi bugs and buggies did. NA subi 94hp, tc subi 177hp, tc subi 215hp & tc subi blue bug 195hp.

hellbugged - February 17th, 2009 at 04:05 PM

we need a "contol" car to turn up to each event and offer an accuracy scale for each dyno:smilegrin:........

seriously tho thanx for sharing, and yes great way to get those jets just right!!!!!!!

Menangler - February 17th, 2009 at 05:24 PM

Klaus,
I don't have your email address, I would have sent you out an invite if I did, Sorry Dave
