Just wanted to Thanks Phil particularly for invite to Vee Dub meet, what a great idea to have at a Drive-in. Pity about the rain, as made it hard to get to chat to all but had a great time anyway. Cant believe how cheap it was, and I got provided a just cars magazine free!! Anyway if another ever planned, do let me know and lets hope its a fine day next time.

No worries, great to meet you! It was a fun night, in spite of the rain. Love The Beast was an enjoyable doco-style film, one that car enthusiasts will relate to better than the average person. I have a new respect for Eric Bana, he seems a really good bloke. I was also wowed by Jay Leno's collection! Dr Phil was a bit of a strange one though, and Jeremy Clarkson only came across as a tosser. I also stayed for the second movie, Kenny, but it started to drizzle and I had to use the Kombi's wipers every couple of minutes.

I hadn't been to the drive-in since we had a Flat 4/Club Veedub run to the now-dead Bass Hill Drive-in for Herbie Fully Loaded a number of years ago. It is a shame they are nearly all gone now - Sydney once had 14 drive-ins (Melbourne had 23!) but Blacktown is the last one. Even that one looked run down to me - the tarmac needs redoing and everything needs a coat of paint.

Greater Union needs to tailor the drive-in more to car enthusiasts, with more classic car films, earlier notice of coming films, opening the gates earlier so car owners can chat before the film, and discounts for car clubs. Why just play current release films, that everyone can just go see at the multiplex?

The weather did scare a lot of people off, but we eventually got three Kombis, three Golfs and a New Beetle come along. There were several Ford and Holden clubs also there on the night, so it was fun.

In case you have never been to a drive-in before, no you don't keep your engine running the whole time. You park facing the screen, in whichever row you like. Blacktown still has three rows on Field 1 that have the old-fashioned speaker boxes. Otherwise you can clip the lead onto your aerial and tune to an AM frequency, or just tune to an FM frequency.

Thanks Aaron for the photo - I haven't downloaded mine yet.
