Say hello to my 54 beetle
VW Justice - March 24th, 2009 at 11:53 AM

Hi all

Would like to introduce you all to my 54 beetle. I was able to get it half finished with my grandfather before he died. It has now become mine to finish.

I hope to get it on the road ASAP and for it to become my daily driver.

Keep your fingers crossed for me

Daniel

Very very nice!
Do you still have the original power plant or are you going for a different engine?
The colour looks good on it.

Missing a few things.

most needed at the moment are crome tail light surronds and taillight rubbers. Just sent for some bits n pieces from the east.

Will have many more bits req as project goes on.

Am living in Perth WA and am planning on keeping the orig motor at the moment. engine was reco 6 years ago but hasn't done 10km since....

Thinking of going basically orig through out but a set of sprint stars, lowering and going 12 V so can put some tunes in it. So low and slow is the plan.

Any other options would be appreciated and possibly followed through with.

Loving looking 54 mate, be great to get her on the road.

If you have a ipod, blaupunkt do a amp with a direct imput. Hook it up to the power and speakers, mount it under the back seat and keep the dash how it was meant to be. Lovely. Also you should restore your batwing wheel. I looks as if it is in really good nick. Just a light rub with 2000 wet n dry, highfill and paint. Easy and makes all the different. I am in the process of doing one at the moment.

Was always going to keep the dash original and was planning on puttin the head unit in the glove box. Thanks for the tip on the blaupunkt amp will look into it. I guess it can't run on 6V?

Thanks for the great stearing wheel tip. Will have to do that

Nice looking car, keep us posted please on your progress.

matberry - March 25th, 2009 at 08:19 AM

Hi, great looking 54, a keeper for sure, nothing like having family history and doing with your grandpa!

Careful on rushing into the 12 volt. If you are using the original engine, can be very difficult for a good looking/reliable system, and it stuffs up so many things, wipers, semaphores, even taillights dont like it with the plastic heart lenses. Maybe go the ipod with a second separate 12 v battery, you could just charge it up once a week.

id have to say firstly hello and very sweet looking 54 ,love the colour but man im a fan of lowering and customising etc but she looks like she should be a stock baby , or keep the old motor an box in the shed and put a new one in if you r gunna do the sprintars etc ,lowering job so IF and when u want to bring her back to stock nothings damaged broken or worn out ...Cheers Brendo , either way shes a beauty...

VW Justice - March 28th, 2009 at 12:49 PM

Yeah the colour is original. To my knowledge the 54 only came out in two colours white and green. correct me if i'm wrong. Think I am going to stay 6V now.

boristherat - March 29th, 2009 at 05:54 PM

Oh yeah...that is just beautiful.
I like the current wheel combo, gives a real utilitarian look. Imagine it just a little lower and........ mmmmmmmm tasty.
