where the hell have you been buying leaded fuel these last few years?! unleaded fuel is no problem with these motors as they were designed to run on it so that is not your problem. i reckon it will be the fact that you've emptied the tank completely and suck up some crap from the bottom of your tank. maybe check your idle jets you may have a blockage in one side perhaps?

if it ran dry and you added fuel u may have stired up crap in the tank n carbies

start at the front pull and clean all fuel components till u get ot the back of car and carbies

leaded fuel has been illegal for a few years now...

If You had any, it would have gone off anyway...
and clogged everything up...

old unleaded petrol breaks down and also cloggs everything up... including the carby..

I use premium unleaded fuel... 95 or 98 Octane..

and tune my engine to suit...

Inspect/clean filters and fuel bowls

i read some where about a carb balance pipe taht goes from carb to carb some how it had came off one carb i pluged it back on and know it sounds right

A backfire (probably when running out of fuel or restarting) probably blew off the pipe. Nice to have an easy fix:smilegrin:

well here is a good chance to redo all the fuel lines ,and rubber pieces a good job that needs to be done ,so where do you start remove the fuel tank and check the filter in the tank and from there just follow the lines and replace all including the filter and you never know there mite be 2 filters on the line. on an older car this is a must if you dont want hassels down the line and a fire whitch is a common thing for old vw's mainly caused by rubber leaking on to dizzy or genny the little sparks ignite the fuel and you dont have a car anymore just a bbq and no snags to cook
good luck
