Anyone running Comp Eliminators on the street??
Craig Torrens - April 30th, 2009 at 08:51 PM

I have street eliminator 2000 heads on my ragtop's 1916 and I'm thinking about changing to comp eliminators.............the car gets driven at least once a week for a total of around 200km/week.....so is anyone running them on the street ??

Cheers

Can i ask WHY you would want to do that?

Arent they different manifold ports - different ..... well everything??

Surley street eliminator 2000 heads would make more than enough power for a street based motor??

You have then laying round?? - cause it seems like a hell of a $$$$ lay out to just see what they are like??

for even more HP

They have virtually the same number if fins as the street eliminators so should cool the same.
I know of a couple of cars that do quite a few miles with them...one in the Adelaide rally.
You may not make more power with the small capcity you run.
...unless you want to squeeze a 86mm crank in there,
but that is not your style Craig.

You will also most likely be slower, even if you have a higher HP number.

There's 11hp difference between my ex hillclimb 1916 and the ragtop's 1916, with the only difference being the larger port size in the hillclimb eliminator heads (Ported out by Stan). Everything else with these two motors is identical.

So instead of getting Stan to port the ragtop heads, i'm thinking just fit the comp eliminators. As for having a small motor, well a ford cosworth is 2lt and have a look at its port size

I think the key will be to keep the valve size realistic, so probably the 42mm or 44mm inlet with the 38mm exhaust. (I currently run 42x37.5)

I guess it will make for a good experiment !!!

hey craig, i have always heard that the street eliminators run hot for daily use. so whats the verdict

i have been thinking of running these. i have steve timms stage 2's at the moment.not 100% happy at the moment, but then it could be my combo...

doo tell.......

Craig Torrens - May 2nd, 2009 at 08:32 AM

I had heard the same....but, I've never had any problems running them on a daily driver, this includes peak hour Sydney traffic and freeway driving.

If your talking about adam's car for the classic adelaide - I think there wedge ports not comp elims. I know hes got comp elims on this turbo car. I have street elims 44x37.5 on my 2165 turbo car yet to be run but thought they were plenty big enough for the size of the motor. Adam rand 44x37.5 streets on his turbo car daily and never had heating issues so it must be a myth. Would it not be better to spend the $$$ on something else like efi or something after all you only searching for 11hp?

Not Adam.

EFI will cost more than a set of heads,
and be lucky(very lucky) to be 11hp better than a correctly jetted set of carbs that have the same venturi/throttle size.

The 044 casting would need material welded back into the port
to make it the same as a street eliminator.
The bolt pattern at the head is the same but the port shape is totally different.
I have not seen yours, but next time you get to do a comparison you will see the 044 likes a manifild that cmes in a little more vertical.
and the SE has a port floor that is much more horizontal.

The SE cooling rumour came from the Bergs.
There is no doubt that they have less fin area,
but to claim that they would fall in half if you drove them more than a 1/4 mile was pure hype.

The ones I know of travelled thousands of miles
of street and highway miles with 10:1 or more comp.
They probably had extra oil coolers,
and actually tuned their jetting and ignition timing to be correct

Slightly different but close,
Don Pauter runs Super Pro Heads in his 3140cc Ghia with Porsche cooling as a daily driver without any problem in Cali heat.
Comps even tho overkill on the street IMO:smilegrin:because of the large ports and their peak RPM operability should not be a problem especially if used with split dur cam FK45in/FK44ex therefore keeping stronger midrange.
I say go for it, need to have more a/c beasts out there.
