gday all i am chasing a baja kit for a 1973 L bug .
i have been told they are not readily available but i am fairly good at fibreglassing .
I will have a go a modifying one so if anyone has an old BAJA kit lying around damaged or not doesnt matter i am looking to buy
thanks rod
you might try matt berry he has been working making moulds for a couple of mad bajas he may be able to help.
just buy baja chris's car so we can be done of him.
Haha, what a mole rat! But thanks for the thought, very sweet of you bob
Where you located baker? yea ur right about the baja kits, but at least u don't got struts. I did have a couple spare fenders and rear engine cover,
no bonnet or nose cone (saving for someone else).

gday rod
i bought a 71 superbug for nothin a while ago and thought why not give a strut front baja a go...;
most dammage i could do is smash the whole front suspension and then send it to the wreckers! least i'd have fun doin it
i bought a baja kit to suit an early beetle and modfied it so suit my stru front..
the rear is all very similar so no problems there. it all fits fine.. but up front was the problem. i found it easier to cut the original steel guard
inot the same shape as the baja guards. this made for extra strength, and a perfect fit!
The nose cone and bonnet was a very different story. first off we cut the nose cone down the middle and lengthened it to fit the wider front and
carefully molested the original front into accepting the cone. it ended up looking alright. i have yet to fit the bonnet but plan is to cut and split
once again.. the other option is fitting the original bonnet and hacking and beating up the front.....
hope this helps
cheers

mad man! I got a 90' celica, bros got an 86', and we got a 1976 ra23 in queue for a resto at the workshop.
But if you eva come by my way and ur after those guards, just give us a holla.
I'm sure someone close to home will have a kit sitting there as a spare.
hey chriss my brother gets up to qld for work on a weekly basis so depending where you are and what you would like for the gaurds i may have to make
arangements.
do you have 4 gaurds
or 2
i may even wait awhile to see if some one doesnt have a full set but it doesnt hurt to ask.

no worries rod. i got 4 guards. they need a full sand back, and have little surface cracks, so could do with another coat of polyester resin on the
glass. They need a bit of work. I'm sure $35 for the 4 will do.
But yea, only if you want, and when ur ready. but they are here.
always willing to trade for spare baja bits or vw motor bits as well :P
hey north of gold coast is alot of space can you give me a suburb so i can see if my bro can get them for me.
For that price i am more than interested
may be worth bus freighting them
i will work it out one way or the other
thanks rod

hang on, its 4 rear ones though...
no front. just checked.
strut baja bugs have been built but without heaps of bracing there good as show ponies only
pic up volkswagen australia #1 magazine from the early 90s
theres a 71 superbug baja in that, that would put most offroad bajas to shame with what it can do
im planning on doing a fair bit of reinforcing... wont treat her too badly till i do.
how do i get earlier copies of vwma??
any suggestions for efficient reinforcements?
