Anyone have one of these exhausts fitted to their 1600 Beetle? Just wondering what the exhaust note is like and quality.

In my opinion the quality is pretty darn good for the $$$$.
Note is better than standard pea shooters, hard to describe really. Initially I wasnt sure I liked it but now I dont really mind it. Not quite by any
means. depends what your after. I bought it for the ground clearance & the fact that its an extractor system that exits the stock location.
Heat riser attacments are not fully welded nor are they drilled through. So a bit of reworking is required if you want to have a fully functioning
heat riser pipe on your inlet manifold.

I have modified mine so i have a flange connection
I have been told the new ones have the heat riser fully welded and drilled.
The heat riser doesnt work as well as a stock whick "flows" from right to left - these will just pulse.
Personally i think most of the heat comes from conduction
I have one of these sitting in my garage unused as i was told it would fit on a full size oil cooler.. unfortunately this wasn't true.
it wont fit with an oil pump that runs out into a filter
as i have tryed ;(
Bugger! The motor I just bought has hi-flow pump and filter. Thanks fellas - saved me some hard earned there. So what what exhaust system will fit?
I prefer to use stock exits if possible.

yeah thats why i went gt2 to fit out the stock holes
i don't like the look of the gt4 and they don't fit out the stock holes
but i think they would work with your pump
empi make a nice exhaust (monza 1300) but finding them with single tip is hard.. and they rust pretty quickly as well. But sound great.
i had the gt2 system for about 2 years on a stocker and loved it, looked sick and sounded brilliant. personally id go back to a stock pump set up and use the gt2, if not then u could always get a set of sidewinder headers and then get a custom exhaust made that will go back out the original holes, pretty easy to do and wouldnt be too expensive (a little more than the gt2, but u get that with custom stuff)
mm in my case my beetle is an autostick beetle so it needs the larger oil pump for ATF, and then i have no spare space in the wheel wells for mufflers as they have a vacuum tank and an ATF tank.
well with the sidewinder headers they should clear your pump, as i have a large cb pump and have heaps of clearance, could be wrong, but worth to check out. and as for the muffler, there is plenty of room under the drivers side rocker cover between the wheel and the engine. thats where the original sidewinder muffler sits. ill post a pic of mine, maybe it will help u visualize where it sits.

bazza, how does that exhaust run with ur 1916? is the piping wide enough? i like the fact they they exit stock holes. i like the sleeper look
theyre only good for something with stock heads and only very mild carbs i wouldnt put one on anything more than kdogs
ive got a brand new one sitting under the house, found out they dont clear full flow pumps
i also dont like the fact they still fweem cos they tail pipes are baffled
sounds so wrong having a nice deep note but still fweeming like stock peashooters

-exits through stock holes, heat risers can be used, atainless steel, dimensioned larger extractor pipes. Basically, it sounds like the stock exhaust
but louder and with a sportier deeper note. And itstill makes the magical "shwoosh" sound that the stock pea shooters make, but flow and sound much
much better. Noticeable power and torque increase over stock too!!
Cons:
-makes about 2 to 5hp less than full flow 4into1 headers, from what I've seen on overseas engine dyno tests. On a stock twin port 1600, the 4into1
made 66hp and the GT2 made 62hp. Stock exhaust made 54hp. Please note though that they did advance the timing and tuned the carby outside of factory
specifications for the 4into1 and GT2 exhaust tests...
here is a very old pic from when i had my gt2 exhaust... as u can see fits really nice and looks a treat, unforunately dont have a sound clip to show u how it sounds as that motor and exhaust has been since pulled out
Geez ask a simple question..... thanks for the info but as someone said it wont fit with a hi flo pump and filter set up. So will have to rethink.
Maybe the single quiet system could be a goer and forget about the twin stock exits. Some specs of the donk I have are - fully balanced, lightened
flywheel, mild cam and some head work. Running 34 pict carb. Came out of a KG that a VW mechanic had and has only done around 5000K.
Thanks again for replies - some great looking exhausts there. Not sure if I am up to polishing an exhaust system though.

with those specs you could get away with running tri-mill euro style systems
they actually have better ground clearance than those GT2 and stock mufflers and will clear all oil pumps and filters
i notice george is now selling them in staino too
there not 4into1 but they still give a 5hp increase over stock muffler according to vw trends muffler test

someone at warwick drags had a volksrod with a 2376 and twin webers with one of those

george has stock and stainless i would say they're the empi version
they have shitloads of ground clearance and room for oil pumps/filters
they have a nice deep note but a tad on the loud side
