I have a problem and I'm hoping that it can soon be solved.
The Meyers Manx SR is so close to being registered that I can almost taste it.
I've been delayed for the past couple of months, by the bureaucrats and the engineer sorting out the paperwork, getting sick and going on holidays.
Take three deep breaths, count slowly to ten, calm down, calm down. Ooohhh! I can taste it!
Anyway I need a spare tyre, but there is very little room in the car for one.
I have a 14 inch space saver tyre on a 4 inch rim, that almost fits in the front, but it's a bit too wide. I need a 3 1/2 inch rim or even a 3 inch
rim to solve the problem.
Do any of you know of any car that has or had a 3 1/2 inch, or 3 inch by 14 inch rim as standard?
I know that the Ford Anglia had a 3/12 x 13 inch rim, but that's not useful to me as it must be a 14 inch rim. A 13 inch rim does not fit on the
front because of the disc brake pad assembly.
IF I can get a rim, I can have it modified to fit the unique Beetle 4 stud pattern.
Thanks in anticipation.
Richard.
The renault R8 & R10 in 1965-71 both had 15 inch wheels but the standard size tyre was 135x15
so they may fit...
there may be R4 wheels that were 14 inch not sure...
but they were all very narrow rims...
it would be hard to find a wrecker with old wheels these days as they seem to crush everything...
have you thought about using the space saver wheel
DEFLATED..?? carry a small compressor and pump it up if needed.. I did that for a while in My beetle until I found a tyre that fitted OK...
cheers
LEE

Ford Anglia?! Renault R8/R10?! Haven't they all rusted away by now?
Stay with VW please! Get a space saver spare wheel from a mid 1990s Golf Mk3. They are 3½J x 14. I am sure Camden GTI in Sydney could ship one to
Perth if you can't find one at a local wrecker.

Why would you go Renault when you can go VW?
Thanks for your suggestions.
The problem is that the only place to carry the spare wheel is in the front and a 4 inch rim is too wide. Deflating the spacesaver tyre will make no
difference. It's the width of the rim that's the problem
A 15 inch wheel and spacesaver is too big and a 13 incher is too small.
I feel like Mama Bear. Not too big, not too small, just right.
A 90s Golf spacesaver at 3 1/2 x 14 seems to be a good lead to follow. Thanks for that.
So why do you need a spare (except for the obvious), is it a registration requirement in WA?
No. It's not a requirement for rego here, but I need to carry a spare tyre and there is only room enough for a pizza cutter space saver tyre.
I got a 3 1/2 x 14 space saver from a wrecked 1990s VW Golf today. Thanks for your help.
It was given to me by Joe of Golfwagen in Wangara.
They are VW and Porsche specialists who are regular sponsors of the WA VW Club.
