I tried to pry with flat heads, even a little hammer tappin, gah!
its for a 1969 beetle ball joint disc brake front end... and its the dust cap on either end in the centre of the brake drum.
its got me stumped...
and the best tech manual i got simply says 'remove it' without much more elaborate detail lol.
use a rubber mallet, to knock the sucker left and right until it comes out, also with the use if a large flat head screwdriver to leaver it... ir just drill a hole in it and use a slide hammer..
thanks mate.
I just gotta get a bit more rough with it :P
i can do that! ![]()
vice grips bigger than 250mm can usually get them off
failing that a good old claw hammer or wrecking bar and lever from one side to the other till it pops off
try harder
and its just a matter of bashing it back on when ready to reassemble?![]()
Hi
I use a large screwdriver shank, put the shank into the gap between the cap and hub and belt the shank into gap.
Steve
big set of multi grips always worked for me, if i ever couldnt get it that way, id start it off with a wide flat blade screwdriver with a square or hex shank, u tap the flat end into the gap behind the dust cap, then use a shifter to twist the screwdriver... once u start it it should come off relatively easily.
I just use a 1/2" socket extension put it between the cap and the drum and hit with a soft face hammer spin wheel 180* keep going and it just pops off.
beat the living shit out of it good therapy
i'm sure NASA don't use screw drivers, vise grips or BIG fn mallets to remove their dust caps try one of these
i htink the guys at VW were smarter than the guys at NASA
