hi all just revived an old baja from a 7 year sleep she came from up in the mountains near bathurst
and had no engine cover of any kind and is still in reasonable condition . aside from needing a carby clean /rebuild the swing axle gearbox is
leaking badly only started after i took the old girl for ripp through the bush and i might add i got bloody bogged so i have raised the bum of the old
girl cos even with bigger back wheels t still sat lower at the back than the front
now i came home and hosed it all down and 1/2 hour later there was gear box oil on the ground a sizable puddle about 6 inches round
seams to be coming from the side covers of the box
i am sure it was gearbox ooil as it was clean oil and the oil in the motor is not clean (yet)
have u checked if you maybe ripped a boot? possibly ripped it when u went offroad or from rasing it, if they were cracked and perished, the extra stretch could have caused it.... either that or maybe the side plate seal in the gearbox.... check the tension on the side cover bolts, but to me it sounds more probable of it being a ripped boot.
ok so if i am reading my manual right and i have listened .
i will need to unbolt spring plate from axle housing lift axle housing level cut of old boot slide on split sided boot keeping split 45 degrees up and
back .
now is the only seal an o ring and a paper gasket and a plastic bit that goes into the pivot on the axle
No need to unbolt springplate..... Boot comes with a split in it to slip around the axle tube, then bolt together
and make sure the bolts are at the top.
