hey guys.
i've decided against getting a combi or beetle for now and want to get a manx.
my main problem is i don't know much about them and don't have a bug budget at the moment.
what should i be looking for in one and what do i expect to pay?
thanks heaps, cheers :thumb
Prices can vary quite a bit because of the age and condition of the buggy.
What part of Sydney are you in?
Before you buy a manx.
What until night time, and then do the following;
* strip down to your underpants, then ride a push bike up and down a hill at speed. - this is what driving a buggy with no soft top in winter is
like
* go for a drive in a car, with all the windows wound down, and no heating on, lean towards the open windows a little - this is what a buggy with a
soft top with no sides is like.
* go for a drive in a car, with the windows almost up but not quite, no heating, - this is what driving a buggy with a good soft top is like.
Basically, make sure a buggy is what your after before you go getting one. They are not the most convient daily drivers. They also don't lock up
so aren't secure. If you park them in public with anything in it you'll feel nervous the whole time.
However, on a beautiful hot sunny summers day, on the beach they are great fun. But lets face it, how many sunny summers days does Sydney have anyway
:P
hey wes we have more sunny days in sydney then ppl do in melbourne, but we all can't be as fortunate as some to live up in brisbane...hang oin a
sec, that would make me a queenslander and that's the last thing i want! hehe, at least you have a good sense of cars.
it's not for a daily driver but for fun on the weekends. i sent u an email earlier today, u get it?
Although I am sorely tempted to start slingying mud I am still laughing from Wes's post so I will not..... :cry
I would concure you have to be a certain sort of person to own a buggy. You need to be cool and out for fun .. If you fit the profile then hand over
your cash and get yourself a buggy.
Without sounding like a salesman, if you are fairdinkum about wanting one I would join the club so you can get some good info and great contacts to
help you with your purchase.
if you think joining the club to helpme in buying one then i just might have to. it's not something i want to rush into and make a mistake in
buying one and not get what i want out of it
thanx mate
There is a lot of knowledge in teh club and a lot of people who know people. I have had more than my fair share of Buggies and so have a few others, you learn through mistakes but avoid the same mistakes as others
It's true that buggies are not for whimps, your out in the weather (what ever that may be), and you have limited luggage space. But you rug up
and you pack your buggy right.
I don't drive mine every day, but it is driven at all times of the year. I have a metal roof that I made which deflectes half of the wind (as it
has no sides). I have driven it on hot summer days, on cold Sydney winter mornings and whilst it has been pouring with rain. I survived it without any
regrets. But Brad is right, you have to be a certain type to own and drive one all year round.
To me, it's worth it.
i'm still keen for it. i really doubt it would get driven during the week but it'd be used on weekends.
i'm not fussed about weather issues. you take the good with the bad and if cold weather is the price to pay for fun in a manx, i can handle that
actually, limitied storage space???
i guess that means i can't take my girlfriend! hehehe
Come one, you know you want one.
would this do you ,it s a 66 baja convertible with good motor, new tyres needs a bit of rust repair but you would get the best of both worlds

got anymore pics of it??
i drove it from albury up to sydney for the nationals thats where these were taken
if your serious about a buggy, then organise with members of the manx club to go for a run in one. i drive my manx every day of the week, regardless
of the weather & it`s never a chore...always fun.
join the manx club too, they are a helpfull bunch with a lot of information, tips & usually know where all the best buys are.
expect to pay 5k for a reasonable buggy & up to 10k for a real good example. make sure it has papers or current rego etc.

I went for a ride in a buggy on the 2002 Beach Trip at Noosa North Shore, and I have to say, I WANT ONE!!!:thumb
As the guys have said, they're not for everyone, but as a fun weekender, I think they're awesome!!!
i think i just may have to go for a run in one. as i said earlier i can't afford one now but i am serious and saving. i suppose it'll give me more time to look around and see what there is and what suits me best. are the guys from manx club going to valla?
There are some of us going, Contact the Club on the below link, they will let you know how to get in contact with everyone.
I could take you for a ride, but we have to have the roof off!!!!
