Gees,
I see *a business* is now offering dropped spindles for split busses! AND THE BUGGERS HAVE LIFTED A PHOTO OF A PAIR OF MINE (the nicely painted pair
with new seals and stainless hardware) from my website and put it on theirs!
Cheeky or what? But on the plus side I'm glad to see dropped spindles for split busses available from what should be a more timely source at a
reasonable price......
Been thinking a lot lately that I'm going to take a sabbatical from services to splitbusdom and just quietly work on my own stuff for
while.....

*edit - Rob, please don't mention a business name, due to our new forum rules design to protect us from bizarre lawsuits. Please contact the
business and discuss it with them*

DIRTY WROTTEN SCOUNDRELS,does*a business* offer theres in a full circle version in different colours,
Dont see why you should have to edit the company name when they pinched the picture from Robs site in the first place.
Me thinks they wouldnt have a leg to stand on.
Also if you check this company's site they have links to every other vw site except this one.
Wont be visiting their teepee for anything.
Cheers

Dave, you are a classic!
It's just to be safe. I could have deleted the post but didn't, I'm sure you'll realise the difference in actions.
Actually,
I'm not too fussed about it - I'm genuinely glad this business is doing them for a reasonable price .... I won't do any more myself
now. Didn't think the original post was a slam really - as much a plug as anything else?
But it does raise an interesting question in relation to the forum in a general sense.
This is a fact of information, NOT opinion, NOT slander. In the previous discussion I thought fact was OK
- ie, it was deemed to be OK to state things like 'real business name charged me $600 for an oil change' IF IT WAS FACT.
The forum will lose its value if we become shy about FACTUAL information...
???????????

can someone u2u me with who this buisness is? im interested, you all know who hes talking about.....who? and rob, has a good point, Hes not bagging them, he's amused by it, isnt that ok?
I am not saying that this is the case in this instance, but
if we have people here protecting shonky operators, who loses out in the long run?
US
As mentioned above, if the info posted was factual, why was it edited or required to be edited?
Hi Rob,
I'd be emailing them to inform them of their breach in copyright and getting a credit for compensation $10000! hee hee They might not have
been directly responsible for the pic "lifting" though.
They might actually be expecting you to make them too and deliver every month.
* send a smoke signal
seems we're approaching the US in litigation crap again..
if i spill a cup of coffee on myself while avidly reading this thread i'm gonna sue the lot of you bastards...
:alien
smoke----i get it, its aborigional automotive..............
I think it comes down to interpretation. Someone could have taken offence to something that in reality could have been fixed via a phone call to them.
Yes, what they did was wrong - but after the new rules went up - I suppose it made people more aware of what could, or couldn't been seen as
deformation.
Squiz.....
ok im bored so i will say something
Is there any copyright on Rob K's pictures?
Has "XXX" done anything wrong?
PS
i aint agreeing with any one or even making any comment - just asking an innocent question
[Edited on 25-6-2003 by blue74l]
Copyright exists immediately upon making an image. Or writing something.
Copyright can be waived or assigned.
Most people know that images are gonna get pinched. Depends on the owner of the copyright if your gonna do anything about it.
I usually take it as a compliment when people try and flog my images.
I usually find out...
with regard to the "it's factual not slanderous so it's ok"...
Basically, who am I to say if it is factual, without looking into it. I don't have the time to do that, so it's easier to just leave the
name out if it looks like someone might interpret it as slanderous.
The person who stated the last slanderous/factual comment which started this whole thing also stated it was factual, so it was OK.
Well it doesn't quite work like that, and we don't want to go to a court to see a person and a shop argue whether something was factual or
slanderous. It seems much more sensible for that person to just contact the shop in question in the first place and sort it out with them. Sounds
sensible to me.
If you then find the shop to be at fault, and get them to pay you damages or similar, then I don't see why you couldn't say "This shop
quoted me (written) $200, then charged me $500, so I took them to small claims and they were ordered to refund me $300." You can say their name
then no probs, cos they couldn't possibly argue it was slanderous (since the courts obviously decided it was factual). I am not a court, do not
want to make their decisions, and do not want to see forum members dragged into one.
Also, if someone wants to post a question in the tech section asking who sells dropped spindles for kombi's that fine.
Lets just chill out,
I only said I didnt think you should edit the name as Rob wasnt slagging them off , in fact he is happy that there are more parts for the split
fans.
In fact if you ask Rob for a set of Spindles he will tell you to go to this company as he is busy working on his own bus.
Was peed off that this company hasnt a link to the only VW forum in Oz and they list alot from overseas.
Cheers

sorry, I didn't mean to sound agressive.
I was just trying to explain to people why we will censor such posts. It is the principal of the matter, not anything to do with the individual
post.
I agree with what your saying, and realise Rob wasn't annoyed, and that's why I only edited the post. If I thought it was obviously
slanderous I would have deleted it. :thumb
Dave, it isn't through lack of trying.. Specially in the beginning. I email these people and asked if they would like to be involved with my idea, and I got two emails. One from *bleep* who I believe is one of the owners, saying it was a great idea, and even became a member for a while.. He became too busy, and after a while he didn't post. They even tried their own forum, with all 5 members. A little disappointing I guess from Forum-founding point of view..
im sik of reading crappy legal shit!!! get over it people lets go back to our old ways of VW DUBBING
so rob your not making anymore dropped spindles??? ill be disapointed if you dont
cheers
rhys
how do you get the "this picture is protected by copyright" that some peolple have on their pictures??
[Edited on 25-6-2003 by blue74l]
Barry every picture is protected by copyright automatically.
Linking etc is usually ok on the basis of fair use. Most people like their images being used as long as they are identified. Either obviously from the
image or from a statement....
Do you mean the message when you right click to try and save? That's a simple Java command in the page header....
