New Local forum - Mid North Coast
Matt Ryan - July 5th, 2009 at 09:34 AM
Hi all,
As some of you might already know, the club based in Port Macquarie nearly died a few years ago and has just been hanging on. We changed the name in
the last 12 months to, Mid North Coast Dub Club (from Hastings District VW Owners Club Inc.) but have still been in the doldrums.
Young Dylan, (all of 13 years old and "Dylan the Dubber" on AVD) went out and set up a forum based website just for Port.
We have decided to run with it and extend coverage to the same area our club covers. North of Newcastle, South of Coffs Harbour and East of Tamworth.
We're hoping that getting the Mid North Coast locals talking to each other might gee things up a bit.
You are invited to join us at:
http://portvwforum.freeforums.org
Your input, would be much appreciated.
As we are a small group and to avoid confusion, the use of real names is encouraged but not compulsory, you may use an internet pseudonym if you
wish.
Visitors are welcome and keep us in mind any time you're travelling through our area and need help, or are looking for something VW to do.
Regards,
Matt Ryan.

Perhaps you should of tried to get a sub forum on the Aussie vee dubber board
going to be a lot easier to recruit new people.
Just a quick thought. s this site will be easier to find than that forum.

eraser,
We're not chasing a "huge" membership, just trying to get the locals (and friends of the club) to keep in touch with each other and give a welcome
and / or help to those visiting or passing through our area.
Brendan,
Thanks for sending the e-mails, members are steadily increasing.
Regards,
Matt.

No meaning to knock anyone for having a go, but your above comment sounds more like what a club would want and not something you would get from a
forum.
I have been thinking for the last month or so that this forum has been on the downhill run or so it appears to me. Maybe its something to do with the
cold weather, just doesn't seem to be as much happening on this site. And now if other sites take more people away, that is even less action on
here.
Maybe as eraser said, I think you would have been better having a section within this site. But these are only my thoughts and from someone that has
only been into VW for about 1.5 years.
I am not trying to put a damper on your new forum just adding my thoughts and hope I haven't offend anyone.
Good luck with it and your club, Kevin

Umm, we are a club and that's what we want, the club is not made up of people who have known each other for years
and years (it used to be like that, a long time ago). Our area contains a high proportion of people who have moved from elsewhere (seachangers),
without the forum we have no way of knowing about each other or, to keep in touch, other than club meetings, which very few can attend because of busy
lives. Hence the general apathy that has plagued the club in recent years.
We have no intention of taking people away from AVD, in fact, we will encourage people to go there. We will
never have the huge pool of combined experience and VW knowlege that AVD has.
In saying that, we don't want to be "lost" in a subforum of someone else's website either. The feeling of "collective ownership" generated by
having our own Mid North Coast site can only be a good thing for the club and down the track, if club members decide with a vote, it may become the
official club website.
Regards,
Matt.
Ps. No offence taken Kevin.
