Bathurst Dubbers
OberonViking - July 5th, 2009 at 09:02 PM

I've seen at least 3 beetles and 1 kombi on the road regularly, and a sweet original KG as a daily driver. There's a house with a DC, beetle and 2 SC in the back year. I know of a few other kombis and beetles around the area too.
I'm looking to say hello to the Bathurst VWers, maybe organise a cruise.

If you know someone, if you are one of these people say hello here and we will organise to meet up, perhaps have a cruise and share a beer/coffee.

really? no one?

I'm going to keep bumping this regularly to find some local
Dubbers.
I'm also looking for interest and support in starting up a Central West VW Club.

Hi there OberonViking I live in Orange and have not long finished building a 1970 Baja, it was a complete rebuild , 3years in the making but was well worth it.
Theres a full log on dunebuggyandbajaadventures.freeforms.org Momah's Baja ,

Hey, I've picked up a 71 Baja! Thinking of selling it because it's looks like it is gonna be painful to register locally. I'll read up on your rest later today.

Good luck setting up a Central West VW club, but you might find that it's unsustainable with such a small population base. Are you thinking of having a regular meeting place? publishing a newsletter? what about public liability insurance?

Perhaps a better idea would be to encourage everyone in the area to join Club Veedub Sydney, meaning eveyone gets the benefits of a big club that already exists (all the above plus lots more). Then when you get a 'critical mass' of say Bathurst-based members, you can create a local 'chapter' of Club Veedub. You can have your own meetings and own runs if you wish (subject to some rules), but you are all still a member of the main club and everyone still gets the same benefits of Club Veedub membership. That's what happens with the Canberra guys, and we are in the process of doing the same with the mid-north coast guys too.

The only proviso is that you have to have a Volkswagen to join.

That is more like what I was thinking. A collective of VW enthusiasts who get together to go for a drive somewhere sometimes.
I'd like to be able to create a list of "VW Friendly" mechanics out here, and find out where all the vagrant wrecks are too

OK, sounds good. Start here:

http://www.clubvw.org.au/join%20club_veedub.htm

It's only $45 to join for 12 months. Try downloading and printing off a few dozen copies of the PDF membership form (both sides of an A4 sheet, folded into 3), then leave one under the windscreen wiper of every VW in Bathurst/Oberon you see. That includes new ones too - watercoolers are just as welcome as air-coolers.

You can also download back issues as colour PDFs (they're big - 8MB each!) at http://vwwatercooled.com/mag/mag/history.html

Everyone on this forum (who owns a VW of course) is welcome to join too.

Thinking more and more about this. I think I will start to put some flyers out there later this year, and try to organise a run at least round Mt Panorama.
