heard it on the radio this morn

with any luck it may lead to the extinction of bagged mini-trucks and these dickhead P platers in old toyotas with cut springs and autobahn cannons

LUFTMEISTER - July 16th, 2009 at 08:34 PM

hear comes the fun police:spin:

silver - July 16th, 2009 at 08:43 PM

Not policing fun but stopping kids with no idea building death traps
you can lower it all you want but it must be done with engineers approval
this will also insure your car insurance wont be voided by unknown or badly engineered work
It might save a life
good idea I say

Joel - July 16th, 2009 at 09:13 PM

cant even do that,
maxium drop is 5cm and thats only if the car still has 100mm clearance

having had a couple of stupidly low cars in my time I can see their point
alot of these cars are so low they have no suspension travel left,
hit one decent bump and it can head off in any direction like into the path of an on coming car

eraser - July 16th, 2009 at 09:37 PM

100mm from where? the headlight?

I heard this, hopefully it will be as simple as a phone cal and a yay or nay.

ian.mezz - July 16th, 2009 at 10:38 PM

good more money for me for clearing defects:lol:
and doing adjustment of records with a engineers report number:blush:

ian.mezz - July 16th, 2009 at 10:45 PM

some cars clearance is min 200mm eg those Subaru wagons those young people lower other cars it is 100mm from the lowest part of car eg sump, exhaust , cross members. and you can not remove suspension bump stops .

BOOMERDOG - July 16th, 2009 at 11:22 PM

so considering my car has been lowered for over 23 years on the same settings this makes it dangerous??,do me a fucking favour!leave it out..
what a bunch of fucking knobheads!
so this now means i need an engineers report for something that was proffesionally built that long ago???
fuck this makes me mad..:grind::grind:
they can go fuck em selves as far as i'm concerned..

WANKERS....

polak - July 17th, 2009 at 12:43 AM

that is frikken crap, my car is 78mm off the ground on the nose and i still have heaps of suspension travel.... this is just a straight out revenue raiser if u ask me.... my car is how it should have come out from factory any car that is higher has clearly been raised and should face the scrutineering hahaha :dork::smilegrin:

so eloquently put, but so true

donn - July 17th, 2009 at 06:51 AM

The way I understand it is that it will only apply to mods done after August the first so BOOMERDOG dosn't need to wory about his present ride, after that date then an engineers cert. is required for anything lower than manufacturers spec and no allowance for anything more than 50mm, thing I can't come to grips with is the statement "Mr Daley says while drivers may think a lowered car looks "cool" it really is dangerous and any adjustment of more than five centimetres doesn't belong on the road." how can it be dangerous (without qualifying this part of his statement" when cars built for the track are considerably lower than standard just to make them handle better ie. safer cars.
While I personaly agree that some of those cars out there on the road are just stupidly lowered, once a cert is isued to say the work is done correctly with no advers effects on the vehicles safety then that should be that. There, my 2 cents worth with out one *^@+**^

greedy53 - July 17th, 2009 at 07:34 AM

now boomerdog let all out dont hold back let us know how you feel
lol lol lol:crazy:

BOOMERDOG - July 17th, 2009 at 07:51 AM

sorry everyone for my outburst ,but it is just a blatent revenue making ploy,i don't sit on the fence me...
i've jumped through enough hoops just to get my ride into the country ,the amount of shit i have had to alter/remove/add ..THIS was the last straw for me...
i really do hope it is adjustments to suspension AFTER august?..anyone else confirm this?

vwsteve - July 17th, 2009 at 07:51 AM

XXX-1.8T - July 17th, 2009 at 09:35 AM

how can they prove that the car was lowered after August 1?

Doesnt make sense :(

Both the Audi and the Bug are on their guts they better not get me to raise them :td:

VWCOOL - July 17th, 2009 at 09:42 AM

I think it means all lowered cars after August 1, not all cars lowered after August 1...

1303Steve - July 17th, 2009 at 09:55 AM

Hi

This just proves that we some sort of modified car association, like the hot rodders have to talk to governments about these things, there is the street machine federation, but they seem to be pretty lame.

We now have another premier of this state who has never held a drivers licence, so this is what we get.

Steve

Yes. Keep in mind this is not really a *new* rule - you have required Engineers' for this sort of stuff for years and years.

I am not saying I agree with it ...nor disagree, yet ... and I agree, it has not been thunk about much... Does it mirror the Code of Practice? Is it based on empirical research? Stats? Does a 'blanket' number of 100mm take into consideration suspension design and type? etc

Bizarre - July 17th, 2009 at 11:33 AM

As a famous man once said
"Abortion - it should be made retrospective"

amazeer - July 17th, 2009 at 03:07 PM

If you think you're angry, go talk to the 4WD brigade!

What is the point of owning a hilux if you cant raise it 3 feet and drop a 308 in it????

donn - July 17th, 2009 at 04:06 PM

Yeah, there's another point, why the arbatory 50mm, some cars that would hardly be noticed, others would have them sitting in the weeds, think your right, hasn't been thought through very well, seems like someone opened their mouth before they put their brain into gear.

kombibob - July 17th, 2009 at 04:16 PM

how will this apply with the hotrod boys?
