i have a 76 windowed van with this engine number could some kind soul tell a bit about it
as some crumb has found that having my book is easyer than asking me

Steve idiots guide has cj prefix as 2 litre starting from august 1975 so sometime after that:tu:

The CJ 2-litre engine was the only one available for Australian Kombis from 1976.

Yes it is a 'Type 4' engine, as it is a bored and stroked detuned version of the engine fitted to the VW 411 and 412 range (not sold in Australia). The same engine, in a much higher state of tune, was also fitted to the Porsche 914. A similar layout to the Type 1 engine, but much bigger and stronger and with almost no interchangeable parts. It's like the Type 1 engine is VW's 'small block', and the Type 4 is the 'big block'.
