just wondering what your thoughts are on doing a 12v conversion on a 56 oval...
and why?

Depends what you are doing to the car.
Are you going to drive it often?
Is it going to be restored to original?
If not how big will the motor be?

A well looked after 6v is a good thing, but 12v, you have a lot more visibility at night with the lights being a little brighter, and you can run a new stereo /etc from the car!

the car is driven quite often, it would be fully restored to keep original look, as for stereo well i still can run a separate 12v system for it....i am more concerned if a 12v conversion will make the car loose its value, or will it be worth keeping it 6v.... original motor is still in and will be kept in as i want to keep the originality of the car....

If you want to keep it as original as poss, then keep it 6v! As I stated earlier, If the 6v system is in good condition, they work great!

If you're keeping a 36 hp engine, you might as well stay 6v. I've changed Wolf over to 12v, but I've got a bigger motor for him too (started out as 40 hp).
But Wolf is my daily driver...

Entirely up to you, but I'm voting for 6 volt.

Safety!.

Less amps running round.
Less chance of high resistance joints
Less chance of fire.

You can keep all the 6V bits in a plastic bag for the next person who wants it.
If it was goining in a glass cabinet to look at maybe - if you drive it once a year 12 volt it!

well im with 12v but if you like pushing your car in the cold go 6v its your car!!

Are you going to be using the origional 36 hp engine, because you will have to find a 90mm 12V generator to fit the engine casing first of all. These are bloody hard to find,

A well maintained 6V system works great if your driving the car every day.

Lucky I have a 12 volt Type 3 for long distances and hard work. Bel can be my city ride, damn. No, a stategy is what I need and lots of spares to build up new parts as needed. She runs so well when she's running :sandrine:thumb

I'll say 8V, because it fixes many of the problems associated with 6V systems (namely dim lights) and still maintains the 'period' feel. :thumb
