Engine lid question

Hi
On a 1965+ style engine lid, with the push button opening, should the engine lid lock?
Is there a trick to this? Like a lever or button somewhere else to lock it?
I thought locking the doors would lock it?
thank you

Des, yours is probably a euro spec, aus bugs had the T handle
if it doesnt have a key slot on the button then its a non locking latch
central locking wasnt even thought of in 1965

Yep Euro,
Yep no key hole

I thought, that all Beetle's went from twist handle to push button around 64/65?
When did Beetle's get a locking lid? Just curious
thanks for your help

just get a locking one from a later model bug as it looks similar to one from a 68 on bug

that's cool thanks, I was more curious if I had missed something,
had a look through the owners manual, talks about changing your fan belt and adjusting your tappets but nothing about the engine lid,
thanks for your help.

nah that was a euro/US thing
australians being tight used up the last of the T-handle decklids and latches
it was only a handfull of the last 67 6volt bugs that had decklids like yours
a 3 screw locking latch from a 69-71 bug will fit yours
i ive got one with a key somewher if you cant turn one up
