It's a pretty common thing to do with cars for movies... custom build multiple cars for different purposes. This one would've been a stunt car.... you want something easy to fix/patch up for "incidents" that happen, so you go for the cheapest and simplest mechanicals, a really strong frame (check out the cage) and easily replaced exterior panels. Basically a sand rail with a body hung on it.

A ton more pics at http://cgi.cafr.ebay.ca/Skyline-R34-GT-T-Dune-Buggy-Fast-and-Furious-GTR_W0QQitemZ270448008927QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRace_Cars_Not_Stree t_Legal_?hash=item3ef7f51edf&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_822wt_1165

Best example would be the Herbie movies... I read somewhere that across all the movies they built over 200 "Herbie's" !!!

The nissan engine was probably constantly shittin itself so they wanted something more reliable

Dirtbag - September 25th, 2009 at 12:19 AM

They could have at least made it not have the stance of a pajero.

colonel mustard - September 25th, 2009 at 12:26 AM

agreed. needs some bags of cement in there..

STIDUB - September 27th, 2009 at 11:20 AM

hilarious, height may be because height doesnt matter when its airborne etc, would be funny to have but still i wouldnt want it

I originally thought someone has been smoking way too much weed. I can only hope this lead to some nice footage of an airborne skyline landing motorcross style. I can't imagine why else you woudl spend that much money to create something like that.

colonel mustard - September 28th, 2009 at 12:11 AM

^^^ agreed. Id just wreck the skylines....
