Working on the front beam today and got the lower leaves back in without too much drama.

Then as it was getting late I started on the top ones. I had all sorts of trouble, tried to put them in from either end, nothing seemed to work.

Then I thought "stuff this" so I took out the middle leaves from the stack, put the rest in in one go, then slip the middle ones in once the others were in place.

Easy when ya know how

After I clean it up tomorrow I think that pair of overalls will go stright in the bin. Geez it's a dirty job.

so it's that simple eh!! as soon as i get my beam back with it's adjusters i'll have a go myself. ( maybe buy myself a disposable pair of overalls eh! ) cheers, fish

The early bus torsion bars were "tack" welded together on the end, for easy assembly!

Kind of a related question,
how much do people usually pay to get adjusters welded into their front beams?
Do you have to remove it from the car and remove leaves and stuff?

Unless you want the body work and floor bulkhead cut to pieces then leave it in the car.

YES the beam has to come out of the car and pulled completely apart and cleaned of all the old grease and dirty n crud.

Most of the cost form VW shops is in ?Labour doing this work.

there is no otherway to do it.

Some places use zip ties to hold the spring bundle together while cutting the beam apart. Cheap and effective.

when i done them i found it easiest to gring all the sharp corners off and hold them together with duck tape
