moral dilema?
Pauld - September 26th, 2009 at 07:38 PM

hey guys and girls let me tell you all a story and let me know what your opinion is, here goes on the 14th of july this year i put a deposit on the rebuil of a very mild 1835 motor, it needed new bearings an oil pump and a cam shaft, now i paid 600 cash that day however everytime i have contacted them since they have been waiting for parts, is two and a half months to long to wait and should i ask for my money back or now that iv paid a deposit down should i suck it up and wait for it?

This is just the reason why we should learn to do things like this ourself. It isn't necessary to have many specialised tools to do the job. By all means, send the heads away if they need some sort of reconditioning and the case bored if needed but the rest of it can be done at home on the back lawn if you haven't a workshop (weather permitting!!!)

I know this doesn't answer your initial question but you've got two months more patience than I have. :(

In my experience with parts coming in from Germany, 1 - 2 weeks, I don't see why they would take any longer from any where else in the world.

Do you have a receipt?

You need to find out exactly what sort of time frame these people are putting on this,

At least it sounds like you are being strung out, for whatever reason they may have.

Its time to sort it out one way or the other,

I want the work done or my money back,

warning bells should have gone off about 6 weeks ago. Sounds like a stall and take deal. Not Good.

defo time for them to put up or shut up.

Once you have an outcome, then it will be time to name and shame!

You stire the pot and make enough noise and you get the job done real quick, then in a few months you find out that they didn't do the job the way they should have because they suddenly had to rush or they decided to get back at you for making a noise and then it's too late. get your money back and start afresh with someone else I say.

Get your $$'s back from them and save it till you can budget for a decent engine setup...

No good asking us .
You should be asking the bloke that's doing the job.
If you are unhappy I imagine that you would not get any more work done there.
Like my dad says we live and learn:blush:

well rang them up and copped the verbal abuse over the phone but had a win all the same, going in this afternoon to pick up the deposit, but i got a laugh in the end, the first thing he said was it will be ready at the end of the week

Good to hear Paul. It is a shame that a local business will treat you this way...

h - September 28th, 2009 at 01:59 PM

bugger the phone call doing it in person in front of other customers shows these sorts of unscrupulous 'businesses' for what they are..
full of BS
unfort on here there can be no name n shame due to legals but thats not stopping freedom of speech in person..

I got a new TV doing that. Bought a tv that had to be fixed 3 times in six months, the third time they wanted me to pay for it. The whole shop new what I thought about that idea and I got a replacement tv instead. Dont think I would have been that lucky if the shop was empty.
