Yeah, the guy in the purple VW hit something : )
He fair buggered it, that's for sure.

little old lady driving to church on sunday clutch stalled it in 2nd but it jumped into a morris minor

colonel mustard - September 30th, 2009 at 03:59 PM

oh well, at least she has a type 3 as her spare...

phatratpat - September 30th, 2009 at 09:03 PM

bet he chipped a tooth on the steering wheel !!:smirk:

donn - September 30th, 2009 at 09:06 PM

I think it's just another way of turning a bug into a short wheel base, nothing too serious.

1916baja - September 30th, 2009 at 09:08 PM

looks like he hit a brick wall! the damage is almost symetrical...

Joel - September 30th, 2009 at 09:29 PM

would you believe it was actually 90mph

Eric actually got pretty badly busted up in that prang thanks to a fault with his harness

you can see where he clobbered the windscreen

greasykitchen - September 30th, 2009 at 09:29 PM

How fast? Ummm, very.....
Don't think it's gonna buff out this time.

EDIT: Not surprised he got banged up at 145km/h !

polak - September 30th, 2009 at 09:32 PM

he definitely hit another car, have a go at the slight curve in the damage, also angle of lights and guards

Joel - September 30th, 2009 at 09:39 PM

yeah another car spun out and kicked up huge a cloud of dust.

Eric couldnt see where it ended up and ploughed straight into it

colonel mustard - September 30th, 2009 at 09:47 PM

im just happy my damage isnt like that.

Dirtbag - October 2nd, 2009 at 12:04 AM

As long as he's OK, that's the main thing. Besides, it's only a stinking beetle. Who'd have one of those things......errr......hang on....ummm....nothing : )

I Assume it was the full cage that prevented it being any more squashed up like a tin can?

I would like to be that well off with no crushed cabin after smashing at 150kph, none the less, i can simpathise for this guys whip lash...

I woke up with a crook neck this morning and rekon thats bad enough as it is!

Yeah I was gonna say, it's got remarkably good crumple zones, the A pillars look fine, and no roof creasing (even if your legs are in the crumple zones of beetle - as a side note I remember the owner's manual of my old '72 saying it had the latest in crumple zone technology).

You've probably all seen this video, but is probably a more realistic high speed beetle crash. Warning, you may wince or cry seeing this clip!!

Dear Custom, please add a cage to the increasingly long list of to-do's for my car... ahh maybe one day once it actually looks like a car again

Baja Wes - October 7th, 2009 at 08:23 AM

I like this test between a 2009 and 1959 chev. It is to dispell the myth that if an old car crashed into a new car it would come off better as it was built stronger and would crush the new car.

Ouch.....pity they wrecked the somewhat pristine 59 though :(..................but it does prove a point!

bajachris88 - October 7th, 2009 at 08:31 AM

haha, dad always tells me the story of his HQ kingswood vs. a 80's hyundia excel.... he certainly got better off than the written off excel. he only got a dint! Mind you, completely different car and it was rear ended....

I would HATE to be in that Bel Air...that dude gets completely owned!

Dirtbag - October 7th, 2009 at 08:39 AM

Bloody yanks. What the hell were they thinking destroying a '59 chev like that? Who gives a crap if one is better than the other. I'm going to go have a cry now : )

bajachris88 - October 7th, 2009 at 08:42 AM

The fresh prince won't be happy....
