I want one... but not happening for a while.
THey will probably be extinct before i even get a chance, apparently just only ova 1150 or sumfin made between 1950 to 1952... before the kombi took
ova. But i luv em...
Show us ya matadors! (or pics... either works).
Andrew Dodd owns one. He brought it down to last years German Autofest in canberra. Cool looking little truck. His is a single cab still with the original sign writing on the wood tray
he had it at valla about 99
ive always wanted to build one with a huge engine and slam it on some nice rims
someone beat me to it though

Hi
This is Andrew Dodds one at Canberra in 2008.
Steve
Darren Heaths son took these photos
looks like an extended chassis on that one...
they are so ugly they are cute... lol
its a wonder the headlamps weren't too high to be registered...
but very few rules back then.....
LEE
Hi
The 2010 German Autofest will have the rare German cars again, they only come every second year, these cars alone are worth the trip to Canberra.
Steve
andrews car is originally from sa- it was advertised in the trading post and i didnt see it- very very cheap
a customer has one here in sa and is hotting it up
adam
mike waldron owned one for some years and started but sold it 2yrs ago as a project to fund the drag car build.... ill see if he has any pics, aslo as far as i know they were an australian built creation, undoubtedly exported by a few ppl... alot of our cars seem to be sneaking off over to england these days
HI
I read where 1362 were made from 1949 to 1952 in Hamburg Germany. VW supplied the engines until they found that the tempos were selling up against
the New VW type 2 vehicles so they stopped supplying the VW engines..
I have never seen or heard of one of these Austin engined vehicles being in Australia...
They must have shipped a few boatloads of the Temp Matador to Australia in the early 50s as they were very common...
they then used an english Austin Healey 1600 engine..
and the Tempos started to look a bit like a kombi van..
they sold well in the UK and Europe...
I believe the patents to some models were sold to a company in India which made them thru the 60s++
I haven't been able to find any photos or info in English of these..
LEE
Thanks for the pics guys and the history! I rekon they are mad...
So practical.
Hauling a celica as a ute gets a little old, and what better improvement than a flat bed truck haha.
here is a picture of a tempo WIKING...
Now they look COOL too...
I love em all
LEE
"COOL", umm don't see it sorry.
top heavy and eccentric, I can see that. The body shape makes you realise just how good Kombis were for their time.
Come on Pete, they're so friggin ugly and dumb looking that I want one. That makes them cool. Freaky styling and suicide doors. Put me down for 2 : )

Hi
My figure comes from a German Language Tempo club in Germany..
I'm NOT quite sure what that number means as they continued to be made for well 0ver 20 years in one form or another...
There were produced in RHD & LHD but maybe that low number was with VW engines????
There were a big seller so I'm led to believe they would have been made in much larger numbers than suggested...

We had Guy's in our shop in the 90's and I have to admit I hated it then....but I do think they look very cool now....go figure. Dont know what happened to it???
That is an awesome photo jack. would love to see that roll up at a show
