71-BEETLE-SEDAN - October 14th, 2009 at 04:09 PM

What can the police do if i get mirror tint on my bug.

Can they fine me or defect etc.

I will be getting silver on both sides and blcked out on the back.

Can i say my car is a show car and get some sort of allowance from rta.

Sorry for all the stupid questions but i wanna get mine done on friday and dont wanna have to get it taken off once i get pulled over.

The window tint guys know what is legal and what isn't so just ask them.

Dirtbag - October 14th, 2009 at 06:27 PM

As for chrome tint, not legal anywhere. In Qld T35 is as dark as you can legally go. If the cops want to defect you they will, and you'll have to remove it. Leave the chrome tint crap for the front wheel drive rice burner gay boys : )
T35 will look nice on a bug. Not too dark, but dark enough. In my opinion : )
The other option is to do a really awful interior like mine and leave the windows untinted so everyone can see in : )

helbus - October 14th, 2009 at 06:38 PM

Silver tint not allowed.
T35 for front door windows is allowed
If any tint, venetians or covering of the rear window is done, then you must have two side mirrors.

71-BEETLE-SEDAN - October 14th, 2009 at 06:52 PM

Im not going with the silver now cause its bit too obvious cause the guy was gunna do the stuff for houses.

The guy i went to knows wats legal but will do whatever the person wants but only for cash.

Im thinkn doubled layer black on all bar the front.

Im just worried that im gunna cop a fine or something

Dirtbag - October 14th, 2009 at 06:57 PM

You might cop a fine, that's up to the police if they want to defect you or not. You might get away with it for 20 years, or you may get pinched straight away. It's a risk you take. Or just go with the T35.

71-BEETLE-SEDAN - October 14th, 2009 at 07:03 PM

I think ill take the risk cause ive seen guys drien round with the two tone tint for a while.

The guy at the shop has like a silver car tint which he said is okay so i dunno.

Hi

I have one car with tint now, hate it, why would you want it harder to see what is happening around, or am I just getting old.

We have a very long dark driveway that we sometimes need to reverse up, the tint is pain in this situation even my 17 year old son cant see out of it, other drivers cant see you, so cant react to gestures etc.

then, sorry, but why do you care what we think/say.

the guy at the shop wants your money.

by all means, go for the "cool" looking tint, but if you get pulled over, i hope you have a perfect vw. Cops are cops, and they will pick on your car, it what they do. if 1 thing is wrong, they will look for other things. hope your tires are good and all your lights are working, etc.

[size=4]Hi,
If You go to a well known franchised dealer
He will not use silver on Cars ...
and many these days only use the correct 3M tint...
and thats all they use...
My Beetle is tinted with the correct legal tint so i have no worries... I love tinted windows....
Only time i miss the tint is if I get into a NON Tinted car...
I hate em....
The police have now been issued with tint light meters so they can pull You over at any time...

Years ago, I had a Magna..
all the glass was tinted with an illegal dark tint and the front windows looked legal.... as the light thru the front windscreen
made them look lighter..

The world rally championship cars have their windows tinted with the 100% reflective silver stuff to help keep the cars cool in Africa.... not sure just what countries allow it...

Dark tint is just as bad as having a high 4WD pulling right up level with you at a T intersection and blocking your view of traffic on the through road. The car beside you can't see through the tint/4WD so has to wait until the inconsiderate fool moves on.

You might risk it but in the event of a serious accident which is proven to be the fault of the too dark tint, can you afford the payout when your insurance company also defects you when the police provide them with the accident cause report!

The car is at the tinters now. Will be done tommoro.
He is putting the tint that he got on his car which is just plain black.

Thanks for the info all

DaveCarter - October 15th, 2009 at 04:58 PM

Dude as long as you have P-Plates, cops will find something to defect you for. I got pulled over in my corolla (which to be fair is a bit leb spec) and the cop ripped one of my battery leads off and said it was loose then said one of the tires, that wasnt even close to the wear indicator, was bald.

colonel mustard - October 15th, 2009 at 09:03 PM

^ exactly.

well he will soon know,as where he lives, is where the regional highway patrol is based:spin:

Jak Rizzo - October 16th, 2009 at 06:26 AM

I have 35% tint on my car, it's been on there since 1999. I would never have a car without tinted windows again. Even when I bought my wife a new Jetta, I had the dealer put 35% tint on it before we picked it up. The difference in Summer is unbeleivable, plus it's nice & private for my children in the back.
regards
Jak

ian.mezz - October 16th, 2009 at 07:09 AM

Just ask those cops in the candy coloured cop cars what % their tint is
Its really dark and I imagine its legal :no::crazy::no::lol:
