heapa kombis!

and what about the splitty?

will have to steal it though... sounds like the old prick who owns it all has rediculous prices cause he 'doesn't need the money' and hasn't got an issue if he sells it or not.

XY falcons, GTS HK sedan, oldskool manaro

Another whorder with no respect for the history in the yard. he ain't gonna fix em. They quote he said that the majority only had starting up issues, but that was 20 yrs ago and look whats happened to them.

pod - October 15th, 2009 at 06:48 PM

i think there's 2 splitties :?:

Bizarre - October 15th, 2009 at 06:56 PM

WOW those Geminis REALLY rust :(

Reckon that might be one i saw sort of on the Gold Coast but inland and to the south

See if i can dig up the pictures i took

Bizarre - October 15th, 2009 at 06:58 PM

Condong Sugar mill and then head east to Cabarita

pod - October 15th, 2009 at 07:08 PM

i ve seen that place Barry ,i used to live at Cabarita Beach in the early 90`s , there was mainly dubs there that i can remember , i thought that place was part of Stokers siding vee dub shop?????

STIDUB - October 15th, 2009 at 07:40 PM

5 bays, 2 splits, one... oval? or 50s bug at least, cant see much of it & im not the early bug type to be certain, seems to be a fairly sizable substation or something in the pics, the guy is in ipswich that said he went, i dont imagine it would be far away, wouldnt be hard to find if you were determined & used google maps to suss out the landmarks... id be suprised if someone hasnt done it already to be honest, theres also a volvo in case torrens wants another crack at the motor 10k challenge

dangerous - October 15th, 2009 at 09:48 PM

Sounds like the one on the GC...well that describe the owner anyhow.

He has some very rare stuff in there just rotting away...try a '53(or earlier?) SC...among other stuff.

colonel mustard - October 15th, 2009 at 10:01 PM

Silly people who let stuff rot away are mega lame.

ratty 63 - October 15th, 2009 at 10:05 PM

Would be surprised if it was the yard near Cabarita (sankeys) - I had a wander around that yard about 7 years ago and didn't see any Geminis then...

If it is on the Gold Coast then it will most likely be the yard at Reedy Creek (I think it's called Gold Coast Wrecking - will check tomorrow on my way past).

Everything matches up with the story:

- Owner is an old bloke, he has been collecting/hoarding vehicles for something like 50 years.

- The local council has been on his back for years to clean it up (particularly as part of his "collection" is on council parkland!). Hence the closedown. He also recently sold off a corner of his land for an industrial complex, which is in the process of being built right now.

- He charges higher than new prices for everything, regardless of condition.

- You have to remove the parts yourself... if he trusts you to enter the yard (otherwise he just "doesn't have it")

- The yard is just like in the pics - actually he often has fires around the outskirts in the long grass.

Unfortunatly, a number of classics were burned out in one of the larger grass fires about 2 years ago and more recently he crushed everything in one corner of his yard - all the old stuff from the 20's, 30's and 40's! :grind: I heard stories of guys going in and offering silly money to him to save them and his response was "too late - you have had plenty of time before now" Crazy.

Sadly, this is probably not the only wreckers in SE Qld that matches the info....

Any other suggestions?

R :)

If money doesn't persuade him... can we all pitch in for a hooker :P?

vw54 - October 16th, 2009 at 05:57 AM

its got to be close to the Salt water due to the amount of rust

possible Reedy Creek just near Dangerous

matberry - October 16th, 2009 at 06:00 AM

It mentions near Ipswich......Gemini's rust anyway

flying 58 - October 16th, 2009 at 07:55 AM

the only wreckers in ipswich that i know of mat that has recently been bought by the railway is woods auto wreckers on warwick rd yamanto i know he defenitely has at least one splitty and yes he is a prick and wants the world for everything

Joel - October 16th, 2009 at 12:05 PM

i dont think its the reedy creek wreckers with the pink FJ on the verander, i called in there a while back to check out a bug they had.

its also not barry sankeys place (condor motors) at clothiers creek just inland from cabarita beach

thats not far from me, i knew barry well, was a nice old bloke and sold parts and whole cars for good prices

they all gone to heaven now, he moved upto mount isa and all the neighbours were complaining about the cars so sims came in and crushed the lot

heres some pics i took there in 98 or 99 when i first found the place
there were heaps more buried in the forest

FROSTY - October 17th, 2009 at 07:26 AM

I don't think it the Reedy Creek Yard as there was no open space in that yard. Every square meter was taken up with cars, I also don't think the big phone tower/ power pole in one of the photo's is on that block out there. They have also crushed half the crap in that yard, makeing way for the extension to the train line through to Coolangatta.
Goodbye to that yard !!! The owner it a F%$#@#wit anyway

Is it a wrecker or a private house/land??

mactaylor - October 17th, 2009 at 11:59 AM

I went past barry's place a year or so ago and there didnt seem to be many cars left he must have got the hurry up from the council and by the way i have a very bad memory of barry wearing very very short shorts and kneeling down to pick up some part that i was getting for him and ALL TACKLE falling out!!!! very bad memory...................

colonel mustard - October 17th, 2009 at 12:10 PM

why people are like... i have 20 vw's, i'lll just put then in a feild and maybe they will be alright, i'll never understand
so stupid.

flying 58 - October 17th, 2009 at 05:06 PM

just went past the wreckers in ipswich today and it is not the one and i dont know of any other wreckers that fit that description anywhere around here

Nickster - October 17th, 2009 at 06:20 PM

:sniffle::sniffle::sniffle: beetles and kombis in wrecking yards makes me sad.... they're not dead just waiting for some brave souls to save them... let's raid em all!! :ninja:

FROSTY - October 17th, 2009 at 08:58 PM

I drove past today and I was wrong it is the Reedy Creek yard. If all the cars aren't taken soon the Queensland Rail people will be in there with their bulldozers for the rail extension.

TheMiniMan - October 17th, 2009 at 09:15 PM

There is basically a constant trail of crushed car bodies comming out of the gold coast wreckers yard,,, i drive to Byron bay for a surf nearly every week & we usually stop in at the caltex next door & there has been a semi load (or 2) of crushed cars being taken out of there every trip for the last few weeks, so it`s going, going, gooooone very shortly """IF""" that`s the yard they`re talking about with the pics shown on that web site

bajachris88 - October 17th, 2009 at 11:57 PM

Should we all meet up and go as a group to suss it out?

I'd be part of that - but I seriously doubt that the old bloke would let a group in ... he can be a bit funny like that. :fakesniff:
