Hi Polak, Didn't get to chat to you at Warwick ( your car look unreal) I have read the DLRA rules and regs, just a little nervous abou gettin the car passed. Would like to have it all ok before I make a desision to tow it down there.

it looks as if there is a fair sized vw contingent heading down in 2010. from what i can gather it is about 1/2 - 1/2 36hp challenge and later type1 or type4 motors.

unless my wife's due date is during speedweek or very close to it i should be there. not with a car unfortunately but still there.

if you guys haven't seen these:

http://www.vdubber.com/  has a fair amount plus a 36hp challange group with quite a bit of info http://www.vdubber.com/groups/entry/Saltflat-Racers

plus there is a lot of interest and i think quite a few people who are going here:

Hi

ash1965 posted this in another post "Recently, the first VW to ever run the DRLA Speedweek event, a Super Beetle owned and driven by Mark Hollyoak and powered by a 2180cc VW, posted a top speed over 117 miles per hour."

Apart from having upright headlights the curved screen bugs are the most slippery bugs.

Only about 0.01 difference in COD between fatchick and early bugs - not as much as you would think.

Muller has been egging me on to get the Hillbilly racer down there next year. Mmmmmmm tempted but $$$$ are scarce. At least there seems to be a great contingent of volksies going, sounds like the year to do it. 3 or 4 Clipper busses too, should make for a great circle of wagons to be camped with.

Hi

Not having any scientific wind tunnel data, but going by seat of the pants high speed experience in both 1302&1303 there is a notable difference, but in this style of racing every bit would help.

steve .01 difference between an early bug and a L model superbug is also what i was quoted by one of the US salt racing types.

The CD difference is 0.1, not 0.01

And CD and total drag are two different things...

Hi

The thing that knocks around the efficiency of late bug is the flat headlights, so if you fitted early headlights to a curved screen Super you would have the best of both model cars.

Friends who have raced each other on circuits have noticed the difference in straight line speed between a flat screen super and curved screen super.

I'm not sure if its allowed but maybe some kind of headlight bubble like Big Rudi uses on his L bug racer would help.

The Super Beetle by Mark Hollyoak used a Kamei front front air dam, this is a wind tunnel report done by Kamei.

well, a low super with kamei would be far more stable areodynamic than a pre 68 beetle.... the combination of the curved screen, kamei (spoiler) and height (lowered struts) make it far more modern in its handling...:)
