Its an electronic box that uses a transistor to turn on and off (fire) your ignition coil, instead of it using your points. You pretty much wire your existing points to the box, then wire the coil to the box. It can give a stronger spark and because all the current then goes through the transistor instead of your existing points, they don'
t wear out or need retuning.
Some can also do fancy stuff like give off multiple sparks like a lightning strike.

Hiya donn,

Hmmmm, this must be the Mystery of the Disappearing Response.

I posted an answer to your question and it was up as the only response to that question when I checked back a couple of hours later. Now, it seems to have disappeared.

Administrators? Moderators? Was I edited out for particular reason?

donn, the gist of my response was that the unit pictured basically increased the intensity of the spark which is supposed to result in more power and better gas mileage.

Mystery Solved!

It appears that donn had cross posted this particular thread and my answer was actually in the Tech forum.

Everybody can now stand down from Red Alert.

I used the dicksmith kit one for a while but I took it off. Pretty much just adds wires that you have to
unhook everytime you take the engine out :td:
