power to performance ratio
kalkkuna - November 25th, 2009 at 10:10 PM

hi everyone i am new to vw and i am wodering how much power is needed to gain a certain level of performance measured by exceleration in a beetle or kg?

60-70hp atw will get you to 100km/h in around 9 seconds if that helps :smirk:

yes it does thank you, and how much more power is then needed to drop that figure by one second and so on. My guess is that is that each subsequent second will need an increasingly larger gain in horsepower or am i wrong?

Hi Jak,
I cant really say how accurate it is,
but based on the end of second gear being about 60mph at 8400, it is probably closer to 3.5 seconds:
Just for reference the ca makes 220atw and weighs 809kg.

My Lbug which is the heaviest model bug but also the most aerodynamic was pulling around 7.5 0-100 with my untuned supercharged 1776 which was roughly about 100hp atw

thanks guys that site was interesting, i also found the John Maher Racing site had some examples fo different engines builds and what hp. and excelleration figures could be expected from them. sorry i don't know how to make the link.

Hillbilly racer gets a 4.18 sec 0-60 with the old engine.
