Hi,
My Fiancee and I are heading over to Canada next Friday for a white Xmas / New Years, we were just wanting to see if anyone knows of any Volkswagen
oriented stuff to do over there???
J
Hi Johanna
there are VWs and they do have VW shows in Canada
but
ONLY in the summer months..
as in the Northern states of the USA ,
Salt & chemicals are used on the roads to stop ice from forming
and one small stone chip will allow the salt etc to eat the metal away very fast...
So, Beetles and probably any other old valuable cars are only driven in the summer....
and all VW shows etc are in the summer months only...
but please do enjoy the nice VERY Cold winter holiday...

I reckon they'll be spending their time snowbound and snug in front of the fireplace and drinking, not organising VW runs!
What city? Try doing a Google search for 'Vancouver VW Club' for example and see what comes up.
One left-field VW thing you could do - go to a new VW dealership and see if you can grab some brochures for the VW Routan, the VW-badged Chrysler
min-van. They are made in Ontario but have been a dismal sales failure. They are being discontinued, so I reckon the brochures will be collectable. In
fact bring me back some and I'll buy them off you!
There are VW shops about too...
Not sure if in Toronto or Niagra Falls...
You may need a boat to cross the lake... lol

I worked in Alberta for 3 months in 07, the town i was in i only saw one beetle, the place to go for dubs and dub stuff is definately Vancouver, within 15 mins of catching a bus from the airport to the city i saw at least 20 VW's, all aircooled too, i saw type 1's mainly early, three splitties and some 356 porsche also, Vancouver is beatiful. Enjoy your holiday and it will be freezing there too minus 30C can be expected.
We are flying from Bris to Vancouver (with a 2hr refuelling stop in LA), then spending Xmas in Lake Louise, New Years in Banff where we'll do alot of skiiing / snowboarding, then onto Jasper for the same and back to Vancouver. We have car hire for 21 days so this will make it easier to go where we want to go. That makes sense Lee, that they would only really bring out the VWs and older cars during the summer months, seeing as though it will be -26 probably -30 by the time we're there in some cities not to mention heavy snow everywhere! brrrr. And Phil I think that's what we'll be doing as well, trying to stay warm lol We are going to buy thermals today, so attractive! I'll do a search, It'd be interesting to see what it returns and if we get a chance I'd love to drop into a VW dealership, if I see any brochures I'll be sure to bring some home. 66Deluxe I am really looking forward to Vancouver, just from how people have described it, we have about 3 days there to begin with. It'll be interesting to see if there are any VWs floating around covered in snow I will have the camera ready. We keep checking our iPhone weather app to see what it's like in VC, Banff, Lake Louise ect. Vancouver's looking OK at the moment, the worst low is -4 today .. although Banff is getting down to -30 today with snow eek! I normally can't stand the cold in Brisbane as it is but hopefully with thermals, my snow jacket and a Fiancee that's a big hot box I'm holding some comfort there!
Banf and Lake Louise are beautiful you won't want to leave, sounds like an awesome trip you have planned. Lots of photo's please.
Hiya Foxy,
I'd suggest that you take the ferry from Vancouver over to Victoria. Victoria is the gem of BC and the weather there (yes, even during winter) is
usually pretty good. High tea at the Empress Hotel, the Hudson Bay store and the Provincial Museum are just some of charms of Victoria that make this
the most European of any city in the western hemisphere. On top of all that, Victoria has an active VW community.
The flight was good and went quicker then expected, just wanted to give you a quick update and let know we are having an awesome time, it's Sunday
here atm and almost lunch time. We have seen HEAPS of new vw's but no old school ones. We're picking up our car this afternoon and leaving tomorrow
to head to Lake Louise, sooo exciting! We've only had a chance to do some Xmas shopping in VC and a little sight seeing, so we'll be going across to
Victoria on our way back through. It's amazing to see the amount of Starbucks coffee places they have here there's one on every block and they sell
egg nogg lattes yum, so by the time we head back to Oz I am confident to say we will never want to see / have starbucks again lol
Have a great Xmas and New Years everyone!
merry christnmas and happy new year enjoy the snow
