Exhaust doesn't fit!
Joels72Lowlight - January 3rd, 2010 at 01:27 PM

Here is the extractor system I bougt from esevwbits.

It does not fit. Its hitting the engine mount brace, before it gets half way down the thread on the manifold stud.

Shown in the pictures. What can I do?

I had the same problem,just bend them a little:tu:

Joels72Lowlight - January 3rd, 2010 at 01:39 PM

Okay so that won't ruin the performance or anything?

Sounds good then.

Cheers mate

Pumba - January 3rd, 2010 at 01:46 PM

Wont effect performance, mine still sits very close but so far no problems,i guess thats why they are cheap:smilegrin: i fitted mine to a 69 panel cheers shane.

Joels72Lowlight - January 3rd, 2010 at 01:47 PM

Cheers Mate. Ill go give it a go with the gas.

ian.mezz - January 3rd, 2010 at 02:36 PM

Yes just give em a hit with a ball hammer and while you are under the car it looks like it wouldn't hurt to clean the oil off of the bottom of motor and those cooling fins

Pumba - January 3rd, 2010 at 02:46 PM

It is a bit dirty under there, didnt you just have this motor out joel:smilegrin:

vw54 - January 3rd, 2010 at 03:02 PM

71-BEETLE-SEDAN - January 3rd, 2010 at 03:28 PM

Once you get it to fit they are a good system,

Joels72Lowlight - January 3rd, 2010 at 03:36 PM

Gotta love the holden carby.
Did the jets need drilling outor did you fit an adjustable one?

71-BEETLE-SEDAN - January 3rd, 2010 at 04:14 PM

Love the air filter too, What carby is it?

mackaymanx - January 3rd, 2010 at 04:40 PM

Fuel filter may need moving.

Bizarre - January 3rd, 2010 at 05:08 PM

Cant see properly but isnt the fuel filter round the wrong way??

Also put a hose clamp from the muffler bracket round the header pipe.

Have you used those heater pipe bits??
Got a pic of them??

Joels72Lowlight - January 3rd, 2010 at 06:05 PM

No drilling,I wil eventually put an adjustable main jet in but for now it runs fine.

The carby is a 1/32 Stromberg off a 138, the throttle body is from a 161. Bolts onto the vw manifolds.

The fuel isn't staying there, It is only temporary lines to see how the stromberg ran. I'm getting some nice stainless lines made up.

Shit I think the fue filter is wrong. I can remember the narrow end facing the pump.

The heater pipe bits were shocking! Didnt line up at all. Ill just line them up and weld them myself.

All up though, She runs brilliantly. Kinda disappointed that the exhaust doesn't have more of a note, but I spose its a quiet pack

Pumba - January 3rd, 2010 at 06:14 PM

The heater pipes should have clamps, why do you want to weld them???

There was some sort of steel pipe supplie with the exhaust for where it runs next to the header

Bizarre - January 3rd, 2010 at 06:19 PM

If you can weld and have the motor out SERIOSLY consider putting a flange kit on cylinder 2 & 4 exhausts

Joels72Lowlight - January 3rd, 2010 at 06:27 PM

Okay cheers mate. Ill look into it. I still have a bit of welding to do in the engine bay so I have plenty of time.

Bizarre - January 3rd, 2010 at 06:46 PM

One of the best things i ever did

I LOVE my heat in winter - but i was sick and tired of not being able to get a good seal
I tried high tensile bolts and all

Joels72Lowlight - January 3rd, 2010 at 07:13 PM

They look brilliant.

How much would you pay to get heater boxes ceramic coated?

Bizarre - January 3rd, 2010 at 07:49 PM

I got them done through Richard Holzl at V Force along with a heap of other things

Give him a call and talk to him

71-BEETLE-SEDAN - January 3rd, 2010 at 08:39 PM

[size=4]Is that a fuel filter in the engine bay???

VERY DANGEROUS... that's why VW never had them in there...

they bounce about and can pull the metal pipe out of the fuel pump OR Carburetor...

then Your car will burn....

ALSO- You need a fire extinguisher in Your Beetle....
