Oil Filler Bottle at SuperCheap
Calcool - January 31st, 2010 at 03:01 PM

Hi Guys,

I thought I would let you in on a great Oil Filler Bottle I got at SuperCheap the other day for about $7. It is a replica of the Glass Oil Filler Bottles that were help yourself at Petrol Stations in the 70's and earlier.

It holds a litre and makes filling a Beelte or Upright engined Kombi a simple affair. There is a trick to using it to make sure the breather hole is at the top, and block it with your finger while you are walking to the car so it does not spill out.

I was always terrified with Oily hands using my Antique Original Glass Castol Bottle.

Cheers,

David

The 70's!! You youngsters David! They were around in the 50s. Oops, that's starting to show the age! Saw a lot of them back then as the old man worked for the local Mobil agent in Pitt Town from 1950 for quite a few years.

How's things up north? New projects yet?

Solo ??? You mean soft drink used to come in them too ???

btw - the Newman's servo down the road still has a crop of those bottles out the front - almost look like they're left over from the 50's and all !!!

I use to use them in the 80's when I worked at the ampol with driveway service.

I saw some at a servo on the way to dubbo at Christmas.... Thought it was a bit oldschool. Most places want you to chose (so it's your problem) yout own and take the half empty bottle with you. Then you can add the plastic to landfill and dispose of waste oil in an un-environmentally friendly fashion. Sad hey?
