mate, did you use something to remove the chrome from the parts? If so I am interested to know how. I have a guards red porsche-looking kitcar and things like window surrounds and doorhandles have been painted black over chrome and after 10 years or so (I don't know when it started to happen) it's all flaked off. I'd like to do it properly when it's gets a new paint job soon. Appreciate it if you have done this already and could tell me how.

David

Painting over chrome :

You need to scuff the 'shine' of the chrome first using 400 grit wet . Then etch primer it>primer>paint.

Over here in the west we get this cool program on our access TV station called cruzen on monday nights at 8:30 for other WAers. A couple of weeks ago the went thru this at a cromers.
Aparently the best place to get crome removed is were you get it. All they do is dip your parts in there cleaning solusions and remove the existing crome. As they would if you were geting something re-cromed. But they then dont crome the base metal just spray it with an etch primer.
Apparently this process is realy cheap as its the crome that costs the $'s.
So go ask ya local cromer and go from there.
Hope this helps Nige:thumb

Thanks guys. shall do. Looks pretty crap right now but so too does the rest of the paint work so I'll lay the bug up for a few months and do it all. I'd always wondered about that. I presumed it could be removed if it could be put on.
