different dashes?
cray - July 8th, 2003 at 01:41 PM

just pouring through the vintage veedub/west coast metric catalog and came across the section for dashboards and accessories and i noticed that the dash in my 68 is the same as the ones they have listed as 1958-1967. do i have an earlier beetle than i thought i did? or is this simply a difference between US spec and what we have over here?

We never got the mythical 67 model the states did.

Our 68 was a later model (oh der!) than the state's 67. So what is listed as a States 67 is sort of equivelent of our 68

Make sense?

How come my Baja is plated a 71 but has Ball joint suspension, Swing rear, a flat dash like a standard but the superbug half moon vent behind the rear windows?

This has had a few people scratching their heads - somehow it all dosen't add up.

Is it an import?

PS Wheel well is upright and has a filler lid.

Hi Bronze

Your Beetle is a poverty pack in a way, should have had 1300 twin port motor with drums on the front. The y sold your betle along with the Superbug, yours was the cheaper one to try to hold off the Jap onslaught.

Our Beetle is the same as the Bronzes, but it doesn't have the half moon vents behind the rear side windows?

So is it a superbug or not because both my mechanic and I are scratching heads.

What your saying steve sounds right but ordering stuff like cables is a pain. Tried the super first for accelerator cable and had to replace it for the standard and yet 1/2 the people I see call it a super, 1/2 call it a standard and 1 has called it an import.

You are right - it was a 1300 with the twinport with drums. It's had a little revamp since then apparently.
