I have some old Saas bucket seats id like to get re-covered, probobly in black vinyl.
they are the simple old style with no holes for harnesses etc.
i was quoted $900 by one place which seems fairly extreme to me.
has anyone had seats recovered before and how much did you pay?
Nicko
Upholstery is generally very expensive, unless you're really in love with the seats or can do it yourself it may be cheaper to buy new ones. Steering wheels especially are a classic example of this, it's a minimum of about $200 to get a steering wheel recovered in leather, which is a bit too much to spend on a ratty old sports wheel.
wow thats a worry as I am planning to recover all seats, flooring and maybe roof lining on my 69 bug.
Was even thinking about leather for the front high back seats.
$900 for vinyl for the front seems excessive, i hope to get quotes next month. Would be interested to know what others have paid for similar work.
yeh me too,i hope to get my front and back seats done to original,........one day.
Might be cheaper to do a TAFE course in upholstery!
Sounds expensive to me, get another quote, Nick from Outrage Trimming Caboolture(ish), or Stuart from Classic Car Interior (may have changed to All
Car Interior) Windsor Bris.
Both know Volksies really well and fair dudes to deal with.
Hey Nick.
Send 1916baja a pm. he should be able to help you out with what you need doing.
Paulc and jjwebb, the advantage of keeping your stock seats/interior is that you can get ready-made factory style vinyl seat covers/headlining/carpet sets quite cheaply and then either fit it yourself or get a trimmer to fit it for you. Buying pre-made covers from Mexico is much cheaper than having to measure, cut and sew custom seat covers at Australian labour rates!
I would 2nd Nick from Outrage motor trimmers. He did our beetle cabrio and we very happy with the quality of his work. He is also not that far down
the highway from you.
Yogie
thanks for the advice guys I beleive there is a trimmer who has all the patterns for VW's at Narellan so once I take ownership of my beetle and get
it registered I will get a price for the work I was just wondering what the ball park figure would be for tow nonVW bucket seats, back seats and
carpet.
I may also replace the roof lining depending on price. At this stage seats would be vinyl although i will get a price for leather, i am thinking
leather will double the costs of vinyl seating?

Spoke to the current owner of the car who also has a show car, he paid around $2500 to have the car interior replaced in vinyl. That included front and rear seats, side trims, carpet and vinyl roof
$4,000 will get you new hoodlining, leather front seats, door panels and carpet at Ingleburn
My leather seats F & R and Leather door cards cost $5,000 10 years ago !
Yea its not cheap but thats where U spend all your time! So its worth it in the long run, atleast get three Quotes
mines going to cost around $4,000 im going cowhide
Leather starts at about $100 per square metre vinyl about $ 20.00 per metre
Somehow my comment on the TAFE course doesn't seem so funny anymore!
Don't get leather... There some really nice vinyl alternatives on the market now and will wear much better and much cheaper. Synhide by gilda is
fantastic, they even use a crushed leather backing to make it smell like leather.Just my opinion.
And yeah 900 bucks for a couple of front seats is excessive, thats probably what my boss would charge, I would do them for much less. I think you are
a long way away from me though. I'm very VW friendly though
