deep blue pearl. Modern day VW colour and the signature colour on the R models!

SuperOwen - March 24th, 2010 at 06:43 PM

Steer clear of metallics and pearls. Nice solid period colour.

I agree Type 3's rarely look good in metallic. Orange, yellow or light blue maybe .

absolute, stay with a solid colour such as orange, mid blue such as the early beetle fender on the AVD banner.

There are as many answers as people answering or colours of paint.

Your choice.
Depends on style of car.

RA28GT - March 25th, 2010 at 10:08 AM

I very much want it to be period style. No metallics or pearls unless very tasteful.

Is there somewhere where i could view the stock colours of the type 3?

Mango green!

You should go Elm Green, a standard Type 3 color in the post 1970 models. It's a beautiful color, and one that I would have gone for if I had completed my restoration of my 1970 Fasty.

Elm Green's color code is L 60 D (09) elm green.

See http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/paintcodest3.php  for more details.

thanks,
Andrew

This is what I was aiming for

RA28GT - March 25th, 2010 at 11:39 AM

Ive seen this green before on a fasty and i loved it! I am seriously considering it!

And thanks for the colour chart. There is a 99% chance i will paint her a stock colour!

I think i might jump on slecta.

vanderaj - March 25th, 2010 at 11:39 AM

Realistically, though - if you are looking to sell your resto later, you'll want to pick one of the easier colors to sell. Green suits only a few folks. It's a keeper, you should do whatever you think is good, even if's ultraviolet.

Most popular colors in the 1970's were Pearl White (urgh - the color of my fasty), Texas / Manila Yellow, Henna Red / Brilliant Orange, and Diamond / Marina / Bermuda Blue. I rarely if ever see green Fasties at shows. Mostly Birch Green if it all. Birch Green is such a 60's color in my opinion.

However, it's up to you!

thanks
Andrew

I hope this car is still around for one day it will be mine if they ever decide to sell.

Scarab - March 25th, 2010 at 03:12 PM

HAHAHA....I said orange as a joke (seeing as you are selling an orange one)....

....and look how many people agree with me!!!

seriously though mate....as has already been said, IMHO a solid colour is the way to go, as long as you like it, that is all that matters!!

So, when do we see pics of the new Fasty mate??

Stock colour would be a clever choice. What was og on the car?

helbus - March 25th, 2010 at 10:23 PM

Blue

RA28GT - March 25th, 2010 at 10:43 PM

I should mention that it had red trim and seats, so it would have to match that also which makes it all the more fun.

OG colour is a white, but ive just never been a fan on fastys?

helbus - March 25th, 2010 at 10:46 PM

Grey with a red interior

Wannavee - March 25th, 2010 at 11:40 PM

Dove blue

Yeah the Samba's colour charts are interesting, but don't apply to VWs sold in Australia. Remember that our VWs of the 1960s and early-mid 1970s did not come from Germany - they were made in Melbourne. Our colours were a bit different - and even included some Nissan and Volvo colours.

A list of Australian VW paint colour codes can be found here : http://www.clubvw.org.au/colour_identification.htm  but there are no colour chips to see what they look like...
