Where can i get a car bra for my Beetle

Hi all,
I'm trying to find someone is Australia that may sell a car bra for an early 60's Beetle. They have them overseas, but they want ridicules money to
post one over. Here is a link to one to show you what I am after.

Everything is too expensive in the UK Kev..
try the USA...
one of the semi-locals had a bra made for His beetle at the local upholstery place...
You could try a few in Sydney...
its probably an easy job for an upholsterer or motor trimmer..

You see them on Mercedes and other expensive sports cars etc...

I have a Car Bra Australia bra for my other car. I have had it for 15 years. I have used it about 20 times, only when driving in the evening in the
country or through locust swarms. Stone chips I love. Bugs I hate washing off. A stone chip is a trophy to me. I threw a handfull of gravel at the
front of my car when I finished restoring and painting it. I had no excuse to drive it then.

Thanks guys for the advice and I will try Stuart thanks Pod. Will also contact some nearby car upholsters.
Also 'H' I could always try a pair of the grandmothers undies. They might even come with a stripe down the middle

Car bra's are good if you want to protect your paint job when doing a long trip or you know your going somewhere with bad roads.... but should be
taken off as soon as you get there or back... i HATE car bras with a passion when they are just left on day to day...
prob is you end up with the nose of the car having a beautiful paint job and the rest of the car fades!!
I have one for my laser Its an old one i think it came from Aunger... only used it about 5 times

I know you don't want to use anyone OS, however I used CIP1 for mine. The currently AUD is brilliant for bringing stuff in from the US. This is the
second US bra I've had for a VW, and I can tell you that the US bra's are a cut above anything you'll get locally. Cost wise the Aussie one's will
set you back about $300, whereby the CIP1 landed I got for $175. Plus you'll have it by the end of next week if you act now. Your call.

Paul, I don't mind ordering from US, I'm just pressed for time at the moment. I'm gonna need the carbra when I get to Sydney (prolly next week) so
my preference would be to just collect it there. Chances of finding anything suitable here in Perth are minimal, unfortunately.
BTW, can you give a link to CIP1's page for carbras? I searched their site as well as the catalogue and the only thing I found was full car
covers.

When I put My car bra on My beetle it usually stays on for about 6 months or so.. usually all winter..
If You live in a city with no stones... may be OK..
but driving up and down the highway... stones galore...
One of the locals has hardly any paint left on the front of His beetle... funny thing is, He has a car bra but doesn't use it..
maybe on long trips... too late now...
He said its from driving a couple of Kms to work every day...
I just got a quote for a CarBra for a Suzuki swift...
$477 in white vinyl...
I may try making one and getting it trimmed on the edges..

Guys,
Had no luck in Oz so far. Spoke with Car Bra's Australia and they don't even make one. I have been looking OS, but as 'bartg' said, CIP1 don't
advertise them at all. I have bought off them quite a few times and wish they did sell them.
The only buy it now one I have found is in the link in my very first post at the top of this thread. Think it would be about AU$300 delivered.

I guess thats up to the individual but im aware of stone chips as i live 50k's out of the city and travel approx 10k by dirt road a day
If you leave a car bra on for such long periods then your just asking to ruin the look of your car. I suppose its 6 of 1... you can either have a
stone chipped nose or have a Rudolph the red nose reindeer situation with the nose of your car being a different colour to the rest.
There seems to be a stigma attached to car bra's by people that use them on cars that the car bra is probably worth more than

I think a good option that can be done on a custom basis is a 'Clear bra' basically a thick clear 3M laminate that will protect the nose from stone
chips and it cant be seen as its clear and washes exactly the same as the rest of the car.
Might be worth some investigation

i never leave the bra on my bug more than a couple of days
aside from the obvious fading point it can also mark the paint just from the slight movement that occurs with normal driving
it will say in nearly all car bra instructions not to leave it on more than a week, i know mine all have

If you are only using it every now and again....I have heard of people buying good quality gladwrap (not the cheap thin stuff) and using multiple
layers around the front of the car.
I know this sound crazy....but its a cheap solution for a one-off trip....just be sure to put a heap on and make sure its the thick stuff!!
.....at least on a bug theres no radiator in the front that you have to worry about air flow to!!
....and it will keep your car fresh!!

this morning and he mentioned finding in his storeroom a bra for an earlier model Beetle. He's happy to post.

They do all say that too...
but I made a car bra for a Mitsubishi L300 years ago...
actually made 3 over the years...
I used good quality vinyl then glued about 4-5 layers of 5mm foam on the back...
it went right to the bottom of the windscreen, so the wipers had holes too...
they were always on...
and the front of the car looked like new with it off...
water would just run down the foam from the top to the bottom... so would dry really fast..
never had to take them off..
if I took them off I had to take the wipers off too... lol
used to drive My Wife crazy... lol
You can get thick vinyl applied to the front professionally, which they do to Ferraris and Porsches etc.
and is priced accordingly.. lol
