hey all
I've been looking to upgrade the daily n getting a T5 inline TDI crewvan lwb manuel..
so it's basically come down to either the not new shape ( they don't have crewman model) 77 kw 4 cyl or the bigger 128 kw 5 cyl?
I think the 77kw will suffice me as I currently roll around in my 98 T4 2.4 D n it's no race car..
really if I wanna go fast I hop on my 1200 bike..
I like the fact that the 4cyl is cheaper to rego in qld too
any comments from any of you who have such animals would be appreciative as the more info the better to help us make an informed decision
many thanks
paul
Crewman - is that the 'half panel' van with windows only in the front half of the cargo area, and only one row of removeable seats? Or do you mean
the crewcab (double-cab) pickup? I haven't looked at the upgraded T5 range yet so I'm not sure what's available. But I do know the upgraded T5 is
only available with 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TDI engines (75 or 103 kW); not sure yet if the 132 kW bi-turbo has been released here. The 5-cylinder is no
longer available, so for all current models the rego should all be the same. Dunno about insurance though - a bi-turbo might be classed as a high
perormance vehicle!
You look at the 77 TDI and think 'gee that's not much'. But then you remember that the old 2-litre air-cooled Kombis only made 51 kW ! The modern
VW makes 250 Nm, which is probably more significant, compared with only 150 Nm or so for the old Kombi. So it would be absolutely fine. Of course the
bigger 128 kW five made 400 Nm, something else again...
cheers for that
