I remember watching a movie when I was a little kid about a yellow beetle. Does anyone else remember the movie? Does anyone know the name of it?

Cheers
Mike

When i was a little kid movies were on VHS
Herbie reminded me of this movie. This beetle had more gadgets than Herbie.

Yellow Beetle with gadgets, could it have been Bumblebee from Transformers?

nah its was real not a cartoon.
It must of come out in the 80s.
It had a camera that popped up through the bonnet and I think it had a speech bubble painted on the deck lid

You're thinking of a series of German films called 'Superbug', that featured 'Dudu the Wonder Bug'. It was a loose continuation of the Herbie story from a German perspective. There were several movies in the series:

1. Ein Kafer aufs Ganze (1971) - also known as 'The Love Bug Rally'
2. Ein Kafer gibt Vollgas (1972) - also known as 'Superbug, Super Agent'
3. Ein Kafer auf Extratour (1973) - also known as 'The Superbug on Extra Tour'
4. Das verruckteste Auto de Welt (1975) - also known as 'Superbug, the Craziest Car in the World'
5. Zwei tolle Kafer raumen auf (1978) - also known as 'The Return of Superbug'

All were released in Australia at the time, with English voice dubbing over the original German. I remember seeing at least one them at the Chullora drive-in as a kid.

Go to http://www.imdb.com  and search on 'Superbug - they will come up and you can read about the details. I think some have been re-released on DVD, but with German vocals.

Phil,

You have done it again. Is there anything about VW's you don't know. You need to put all your knowledge into a book.

That's it, the first one in the series (1971) that I mentioned above. Pretty awful voice dubbing. But did you notice the tie--in to the first Herbie Movie, The Love Bug? In that film, Herbie splits in two at the end to win the race against Thorndike. In the Superbug film, there is the Beetle cut in two - and there is a '53' on the door that has been rubbed out.

But that's soon forgotton - then it's a yellow Beetle back together again on the African plains. Weird.

You can buy the whole thing on DVD (first movie that is) - see http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ein-Kaefer-geht-aufs-Ganze-Dudu-DVD-OVP_W0QQitemZ23037...

Update - you can buy all 5 'Dudu the Superbug' films as a box-set. However all the vocals are in German, no English subtitles. Approx $A37.50 plus postage:

I've bought one, and I'll play them on the big TV at the VW Nationals.
