Aus 67 Beetle - what is the US equivalent?
chickenfillet - April 25th, 2010 at 05:51 PM

Hello Dubbers!

I am just about to order some parts from the US for my 67 and they only have the option of 1958-1964 or 1965-71. Does anyone know which year range is the US equivalent?

Cheers,
Kev

What parts are you after I would have though local suppliers here have most of what you need?

Depends on what your buying but i'dd say the 58 - 64 bracket would suit you

my money i on 58-64

US 67's looked like our 68's but with early bumpers

About to start the resto and need a load of parts, just easier to order them all in one place.

Cheers,
Kev

depends which parts
window rubbers you would need 58-64 but everything below that would be right with 64-66 US stuff

Not sure about that, I think there might be quite a few more little differences between the US/Euro 65-66 and Aussie 65-67s, apart from the windows and rubbers. Exterior metal trim, door locks and handles, and all the door innards, are different. Mechanically different too; they got a ball-joint front end.

For all Aussie 1963-1967 Beetles, it's safer to stick with ordering US parts for a '63. Even then - be careful of LHD components (eg carpets...)

Volkswagen in Germany began modifying beetles in 1965...
with larger glass plus many other things...
similar in 1966.. more mods...
and the 1967 beetle with one year only doors...

then the 1968 model...
which had most of the modifications done in 65 -66-67..
but not all the mods....

so, best to stick with a 1963 model for up to 1967 Aussie built beetles...

cheers

the ozzy 67 is quite a half breed, but is mostly an early, so a US '64 will be your closest bet, i went through the same thing when i got mine
