Hi Everyone
Some low life theived my new $70.00 VW badge off my 77 Kombi, in the Tweed City shopping centre car park. I am on a pension and things like my new badge have to be saved for over a long period of time! I hope the dead beat gets his own back, I will be looking for it!
Rob...... :(

vanderaj - July 11th, 2003 at 06:29 PM

That really sucks.

I hope you find the bugger who did it and get the badge back.

Andrew

crazyfiggi - July 11th, 2003 at 06:39 PM

Bummer.....vw badges are a popular target for theives, within the last 2 months my grandad had his chrome vw badge pinched off his 1970 kombi which did a bit of damage to the original paint work then about a week later my dad had all the badges nicked from his 70s bug.
Because of this i decided to remove the badges from my ute before someone else did it for me.

bugboymatt - July 11th, 2003 at 07:03 PM

I've managed to keep hold of mine so far !!!

:vader

koolkarmakombi - July 11th, 2003 at 07:19 PM

I use a resin one painted silver on the front of my bus. This is because the mates of the loser who stole yours already had mine :(

Andy42 - July 11th, 2003 at 07:57 PM

worst part is if you catch them and give them a good beatin then you are the one in trouble witht he cops.
Just gotta hope karma realy shits on them

BenettonVW - July 11th, 2003 at 08:44 PM

Maybe one of our fantastic sponsors would find it in their hearts to do you are 'good deal' on a new one..

Rustbucket68 - July 11th, 2003 at 09:04 PM

I had the badge stolen off my 68 kombi and boy was I pissed as I couldn't get another original one easily. It turned out that some kids had been distributing them around at a local school and they got caught and luckily I ended up with my badge back. I still havent put it back on. Keeping it for special occasions and am thinking of making up some out of resin.

azz - July 12th, 2003 at 12:20 AM

Is a new badge really $70!!
I will have a look around at the markets and stuff and see if I can find one for you.

Another thing though
In what year did they half the size of the badge on kombi's?

KruizinKombi - July 12th, 2003 at 02:42 AM

I keep my nose badge in my shed for that exact reason.

fish - July 12th, 2003 at 05:21 AM

havent looked lately, just prsumed my badge is still there. Would be quite difficult and would ruin it getting it off as it's a metal chrome one. $70 is cheap, this one cost me 60 scottish pounds.

helbus - July 12th, 2003 at 09:34 AM

Hmmmm. I have two half decent white plastic ones to suit 75 kombi that I am not using. If that is the same I am willing to send one to you as I don't need them.

pmgbus - July 12th, 2003 at 10:08 AM

my mate had his aluminium early split badge swiped from his bus, and where are we gunna get another one?

The_Bronze. - July 12th, 2003 at 10:08 AM

A Bronze curse:

May our offenders depraved social and sexual delights be revealed prime time during Big Brother with a photo and detailed descriptions of what his tackle looks like post surgery after the white tail spider bit him on the knob while stoking knot holes in his neighbors garden. Soon after this public shaming our thief finding himself in prison discovers his bed full of the fleas of a thousand camels intent on gorging themselves on his neither regions while outside his cell the prisons general population vote his arse as the being the tightest fudge jar in ‘A’ section.

:cussing Get the feeling I hate thieves :cussing

I hate being treated like a criminal everytime I go into a shop because 5% percent of our population think it's ok to steal. Even when I wasn't on duty (when I worked security) I would point out ratbags pinching stuff from shop to the manager or security staff.

If I catch a thief at school I have to refer them to the deputy else I say / do somthing that may endanger my secure employment.

pyr0 - July 12th, 2003 at 10:21 AM

MAN I HATE THOSE THEIFING BASTARD5

they are the type of people who made me sell my last car !!!!!! its was like a weeekly target and 98% there was noothing in it !!!!!!!! they use to do it for fun or some thing.

kombi_kid - July 12th, 2003 at 10:39 AM

Starbug - July 12th, 2003 at 11:49 AM

Badge stealing has been going on alot of late. Big article in the sunny coast paper a few months ago on how 3 little shits went around and nicked all these badges off cars and showed them off to all their mates at school... and got seriously busted!

i hope the little diksticks that stole your badge get a big padling on the arse from their mother, and then some!!

Boozer - July 12th, 2003 at 08:27 PM

Kill em' all!

silver - July 12th, 2003 at 11:50 PM

I have a spare early split badge if someone needs it. It needs a bit of love but I will consider selling it

Peter Leonard - July 13th, 2003 at 12:33 AM

ahem. I'd like to formally second the motion for the fleas of a thousand camels and nether region bit.
:cussing

Andy - July 13th, 2003 at 01:34 PM

Bad news Robo.
For a different reason I filled the original holes in the front (they're just rust holes) and have mounted the emblem with body mould tape. They will ruin the badge if they try and remove mine!!
Another option is a small bolt with a nyloc nut on the inside, no way to take it off alone.

Too answer an earlier question, early Bay's had the large steel emblem (68-72) and late bay's had the small plastic emblem (73-79).

Bugged Again - July 14th, 2003 at 01:03 PM

When i was at Micks motors on the weekend i noticed they are selling aluminium kombi badges for $10

Andy - July 14th, 2003 at 01:22 PM

Are they ones to fit the front of a Kombi?
I'll have to get some;)

Robo - July 15th, 2003 at 08:44 AM

I just want to say thank you to the Kind people who helped me, you know who you are. This is one of the reasons why I love this forum, genuine people with a common interest in VW's.
The loss of the badge was particularly bitter for me because it was a brand new one, if it was the original old one I would not have worried about it too much, but as I see, I am not the first and not the last that this has happened to
Thank you again!
Rob.......

68AutoBug - July 16th, 2003 at 01:29 AM

Now I know why so many late model cars have NO Badges on the back of them..... I heard a few months ago that every badge was taken off every car in a late model car Yard in Singleton NSW... The Thieves used something like a large screw driver and damaged every car...... this is stupid when You can go to a car wreckers yard and fill Your pockets up with Badges for Nix...!!! and NOT end up in Court and Jail

KruizinKombi - July 16th, 2003 at 04:55 PM

So you're saying that theft from car wreckers is legal in your state? :o

Thanks for that!

helbus - July 16th, 2003 at 08:13 PM

We have heaps of various stick on late model badges that we keep for some reason. Once we take them off cars for painting or whatever, it is more economically viable to buy a new badge for between $5 to $40 depending on the style, than it is to try and (sometimes unsuccessfully) retape them.

What I am saying is that a lot of panel shops will have dozens or even hundreds of badges for kids, if only they got the initiative to ask rather than take. I would give a few badges to kids if they want. New apprentices always seem to want to take them home for the first couple of months. :P
