Fibreglass batts do NOT burn....
thats what I put in My house years ago...
I didn't know that You could have had foil put in there
or I would have had that done for free... lol
I still don't understand how those installers got electricuted...
they must have been using metal staples [not legal] and not having gloves or rubber soles shoes/boots on....??
the staple gun must have put a metal staple thru a live cable
even if the metal foil was alive....
gloves and boots should have saved him...
but I forgot... He probably didn't have long pants on....??
and kneeled on the live foil...
but He still would have to earth out on something.??

Can someone tell me how Pete still has a job as an MP?If he was in industry, he'd be sacked long ago and probably under investigation with a view to
criminal charges being laid.

matt i agree, it was a stimulas program that worked, it gave jobs and spent lots of cash and people got insulation in there non insulated houses. some
dick head installers got it wrong and they need a scape goat!

Exactly right Mac. it's a case of bad workmanship that killed people, how a politician is to blame is beyond me. Not all foil installations are
dangerous, seems obvious.

where Krudd and Garret are to blame is that they were given first hand information from leading experts advising them of the risks and they ignored
them, thus 4 deaths plus over 120 homes burnt to the ground!!
In relation to the foil insulation, they were advised how dangerous and how easy it is to "liven up" by simply putting a staple through it into
power cables. In NZ, this practice was banned after a death had occurred.
Are Krudd and Garrett to blame?.....I''m sure the people that have suffered with loved ones that have passed away and those that have lost their
homes can tell you in three letters
Cheers

the only thing that peter garett needs to own upto is his stupid dance skills!
matberry - May 13th, 2010 at 08:57 AM
Fair comments Flintstones, didn't realise he didn't act when the dangers were brought to his attention, if that's what happened. Still essentially
a workmanship issue but.....
As for dancing with the Oil's, I fell asleep at a Midnight Oil concert once.......no stupid dancing for me......I was way tired building engines late
into the nights during my mid-late 90's vw drag racing ventures.

Also, under the Westminster system of parliament, the relevant minister is reponsible for his departments actions. In this case, they set up a scheme
that allowed companies to access the stimulus payments by providing a service of installing insulation. The department should have made sure that
only acccredited companies that had passed some sort of compliance program with the dept could receive these payments. Part of that compliance would
have been showing that they were capable of installing these products as well as any relevant licencing being in order. There would also need to be
risk management plans in place and for the full training of all staff that do the installing.
The companies themselves that did the wrong thing are liable to face criminal prosecution but the minister/s can and should be held responsible for
not overseeing these programs properly in the first place.
That is why the calls have been there for Garrett to resign but with the lack of integrity in politics, I wouldn't hold my breath. At least when
Gordon Brown in the UK stepped down, he accepted the lresponsibility for the oss as being his failure. Quite rare these days.
